Cal Kestis to Appear in Unknown Star Wars Live-Action Series
The "Mandalorian" saga is to be concluded with the feature film
News from the galaxy far, far away: For many fans, the "Jedi" games featuring main character Cal Kestis are among the best that "Star Wars" has produced in recent years. The website SFFGazette now claims to have learned from a confidential insider that Kestis, played by Cameron Monaghan, will make an appearance in one of the upcoming "Star Wars" live-action series on Disney+.
The games are set between the movies "Revenge of the Sith" and "A New Hope". The question therefore arises as to what context Kestis will be introduced into the "Star Wars" universe. A possible integration into the second season of "Ahsoka" seems rather improbable, as the series takes place after "Return of the Jedi". An appearance in "Skeleton Crew" is likewise hardly realistic, given that the story and overall tone of this series do not suit the character of Kestis. The popularity of the character, however, strongly suggests that he could even become the focus of his own series.
Moreover, the insider reports that "The Mandalorian & Grogu" movie will conclude the Mandalorian saga. This means that there will be no more Mando seasons on Disney+. This information has not yet been officially confirmed, of course. So it remains exciting to find out how the "Star Wars" franchise will continue to unfold.
An Overview of all Live-Action "Star Wars" Series on Disney+
Since the launch of Disney+ in 2019, the platform has released a number of "Star Wars" series that further expand the epic universe on the small screen. Here is an overview of the main "Star Wars" series that can be found on Disney+.
1. The Mandalorian (2019 - today)
"The Mandalorian" was the first "Star Wars" series to launch on Disney+ and has quickly become one of the platform's flagship shows. Set several years after the events of "Return of the Jedi", the series follows the Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin, played by Pedro Pascal. He is drawn to the mysterious Force when he meets young Grogu (aka Baby Yoda), who quickly became a fan favorite.
"The Mandalorian" not only introduced new characters and stories, but also unleashed the potential of the "Star Wars" universe on Disney+. The series combines classic "Star Wars" elements with a Western-like tone and has opened up the franchise to a new generation of viewers.
2. The Book of Boba Fett (2021)
Following the success of "The Mandalorian", "The Book of Boba Fett" was announced as a spin-off and follows the iconic bounty hunter Boba Fett, played by Temuera Morrison. The series continues Boba Fett's story that began in "The Mandalorian" and shows him establishing himself as the new Daimyo on Tatooine.
Although "The Book of Boba Fett" received mixed reviews, it offered fans a deeper look into the life of the infamous bounty hunter and shed light on the criminal structures of the "Star Wars" universe. Particular highlights were the connections to "The Mandalorian" and the appearance of characters such as Fennec Shand, played by Ming-Na Wen.
3. Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
One of the most anticipated series on Disney+ was "Obi-Wan Kenobi", which marked the return of Ewan McGregor in his iconic role as the Jedi Master. Set ten years after the events of "Revenge of the Sith", the series depicts Obi-Wan's life in exile on Tatooine, where he takes care of the young Luke Skywalker.
The series also brought back Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader and featured intense emotional moments between the two former friends and Jedi Knights.
4. Andor (2022 - today)
"Andor" is a prequel series to "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" and tells the backstory of rebel Cassian Andor, played by Diego Luna. The series examines the early days of the uprising against the Empire and shows how Cassian develops from a cynical loner into a hero of the rebellion.
"Andor" has been praised as a mature and complex series that offers a gritty insight into the Empire's brutal oppression. The series' serious tone and political depth sets it apart from other "Star Wars" projects and adds new facets to the mythology of the "Star Wars" universe.
5. Ahsoka (2023 - today)
"Ahsoka" is another spin-off of "The Mandalorian" and focuses on former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano, played by Rosario Dawson. The series builds on the events of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" and "Rebels" and follows Ahsoka on her search for the missing Jedi Ezra Bridger and the mysterious Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Ahsoka, a student of Anakin Skywalker, has become one of the most beloved characters in the "Star Wars" universe, and the series promised to provide gripping stories for old and new fans alike.
6. The Acolyte (2024)
"The Acolyte" is set in the time of the High Republic, about 100 years before the events of the Skywalker saga. This time is considered the golden age of the Jedi, in which the Republic is powerful and the influence of the Sith has seemingly been extinguished. But a dark force begins to rise in the shadows.
The series, developed by Leslye Headland, revolves around a former Padawan and her Jedi Master who solve mysterious crimes. The focus is on the growing imbalance in the Force and the emerging threat from the Dark Side. However, the series did not go down well with fans.
7. Skeleton Crew (2024)
"Skeleton Crew" is a planned "Star Wars" series directed by Jon Watts (known for the "Spider-Man" films). The series will tell the story of a group of children who get lost in the galaxy and experience adventures. The cast includes Jude Law, among others.
