Overview
"Mickey 17" is an American science fiction film directed by Bong Joon-ho, which is scheduled for release in 2025. The film is based on the novel "Mickey7" by Edward Ashton and tells the story of Mickey Barnes, who works on a spaceship as a so-called "Expendable".
Mickey Barnes signs on as an "Expendable" on a spaceship with around 200 colonists. As an Expendable, he is responsible for dangerous tasks such as exploration missions. If he dies, a clone is created, with his memories serving as a backup. On the planet Niflheim, Mickey17 is sent ahead to investigate the ice surface. He is rescued by a "Creeper" when he falls into a crevasse. Back at the base, he realizes that the colonists thought he was dead and have already created Mickey18, a new clone. To avoid being thrown into the recycler, Mickey17 has to hide the truth. However, the situation for the colonists worsens as the atmosphere is toxic and food becomes scarce, while the "creepers" show interest in the new arrivals. The clone tries to save his own life and that of an alien species.
