Surprise! Shooting for new Star Wars film to start this year!
The director and screenwriter are already known
A new film from the "Star Wars" universe might not be too long in coming. Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman reports that a shooting date for the "Star Wars" film by "Deadpool & Wolverine" director Shawn Levy has already been set. Richtman is talking about a shooting start in the fall of 2025, which would mean that production is progressing faster than originally thought. The film is to be shot in the UK.
Shawn Levy is no stranger to Hollywood. In addition to "Deadpool & Wolverine", his CV includes the Ryan Reynolds film "Free Guy" and the "Night at the Museum" series. He also directed several episodes of the Netflix hit "Stranger Things".
As IndieWire learned in an interview with Levy, Jonathan Tropper will write the screenplay for the "Star Wars" film. The author previously worked with director Levy on the Netflix film "The Adam Project". We can therefore expect a well-rehearsed creative team for the new "Star Wars" project.
Cinema release and other projects
At this early stage of development, it is still uncertain when the film will be released in cinemas. Due to the start of filming in 2025, a release in 2027 can be expected.
However, there is far more than just one project in the "Star Wars" universe in the pipeline. Among others, James Mangold is planning "Dawn of the Jedi". The latest release in the "Star Wars" universe was the series "Skeleton Crew".
Shawn Levy: A look at the director's films
Shawn Levy has established himself as one of Hollywood's most successful directors. With a career spanning several decades, he has created an impressive range of films - from family comedies to science fiction and thrilling action adventures. The Canadian director, producer and screenwriter has found success not only through his creative versatility, but also through his sense of humor and accessibility to the masses. Here we take a look at some of his best-known works.
Zookeeper
"Zookeeper" is one of Shawn Levy's lighter comedies and appeals particularly to families and younger audiences. The movie, starring Kevin James, tells the story of a zookeeper whose animals reveal to him the secrets of a magical zoo where they can talk at night. The film mixes humorous elements with a warm-hearted message about self-discovery and interpersonal relationships.
Night at the Museum
Without a doubt, the "Night at the Museum" films are some of Shawn Levy's best-known works. The trilogy, which began in 2006 with "Night at the Museum", was a worldwide success. The films follow Larry Daley (Ben Stiller), a night watchman at the museum whose exhibits come to life at night. With a mixture of humor, fantasy and historical figures in unusual situations, the films became box office hits and made their mark on the 00s.
The first part was a huge success, which was continued in 2009 with "Night at the Museum 2". 2014 saw the third part of the series, "Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb". Despite mixed reviews, the films remained popular with families and children, and Shawn Levy was able to make a name for himself as a director of adventurous, imaginative comedies.
Real Steel
Another film in Levy's career is "Real Steel" from 2011, a science fiction film in which humans pit their robots against each other in a boxing ring. Hugh Jackman plays Charlie Kenton, a failed boxer who, together with his son Max (Dakota Goyo), builds a robot to fight for a place in the future of robot sports. "Real Steel" was both a financial success and popular with many viewers. The movie offers a good mix of futuristic technology and emotional family story.
Free Guy
"Free Guy" was another big success for Shawn Levy. The movie, released in 2021, revolves around a bank employee named Guy (Ryan Reynolds) who discovers that he is the character of an NPC (Non-Playable Character) in a giant video game. With humorous elements, spectacular action sequences and an entertaining meta-narrative style, the film struck a chord and enjoyed worldwide success.
"Free Guy" was praised not only for its fresh and creative storyline, but also for the performance of Ryan Reynolds, whose humor and charisma fit the role perfectly. The film marked the pinnacle of Levy's ability to combine comedy and action.
Stranger Things
Although Shawn Levy is primarily known for his film career, he has also gained a huge foothold in the world of series production. As executive producer and director for the successful Netflix series "Stranger Things", he has played an important role in shaping the visual style of the series. "Stranger Things" has become a cultural phenomenon and has received worldwide acclaim for its blend of 80s nostalgia, horror, sci-fi and teen drama.
Shawn Levy has managed to establish himself as a versatile director with a great track record of audience success. From family-friendly comedies to thrilling science fiction stories, he has managed to hold his own in a variety of genres.
