Taylor Swift Breaks One of the Biggest Movie Records and Sets Hollywood on Fire
The singer has been on one of the biggest tours of her career since March
This woman knows no boundaries: Taylor Swift sells out stadiums within minutes, making her one of the most successful musicians of all time. Now the success is also to be continued in the cinema and is already breaking records.
With her "The Eras Tour", Taylor Swift is currently touring the world and creating excitement among her fans with three-hour shows. Since the tour was sold out within a very short time, not everyone might have been able to get a ticket. This is about to change with "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour", because the concert film will be released in theaters and is already breaking records. For example, the film grossed $26 million within 24 hours, eclipsing the previous title holder "Spider-Man: No Way Home" - which held the previous record at $16 million. Even more impressive are the pre-sales figures for the three largest U.S. theater chains, AMC, Regal and Cinemark, where the film came in at $37 million. The previous top movie, "Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens", came in at $20 million - just about half that amount.
Even apart from these impressive numbers, Swift's concert film is notable because the musician decided to finance and produce the film independently of major studios. This is likely to create some buzz in Hollywood and not exactly play into the big studios' cards - even in the context of the current actors' and writers' strike. Swift may thus have kicked off a new era and proven that concert films are serious contenders in theaters.
"Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour" will be released on October 12, 2023.
