Tom Holland Says There Are Concrete Plans to Pass the Baton
"Spider-Man" is on everyone's lips: "Spider-Man: Brand New Day", the fourth installment in Tom Holland's Spider-Man series, is currently playing in theaters and continues to break one box office record after another. But what does the future hold for Spidey on the big screen? Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige spoke about a potential "Spider-Man 5" in an interview with the industry magazine Variety. And Tom Holland has also commented several times on his future as Peter Parker – including a few surprising remarks.
Tom Holland on His Future as Spider-Man
One thing is certain: In the long term, Holland plans to pass the torch. On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the actor revealed that there's already a concrete plan in place for this.
"There's a whole plan that we have been working on for, I would say, since we finished 'Spider-Man: No Way Home.' It's laid out. It's gonna change for sure, but I have a really clear vision to the passing on of the baton, and I think it's really exciting."
Who will be Tom Holland's successor?
Holland hasn't yet revealed exactly how this handover will take place. However, there are several candidates who could take on a bigger role in the "Spider-Man" universe in the future. For example, there has been talk for some time now about a live-action movie featuring Miles Morales. Miles could be one of the candidates to take over the mantle, as Holland revealed in an interview with Empire magazine.
"For whoever's next, whether that is a Miles Morales or a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman or something like that, I would love to be a part of setting up the next chapter. Whatever that looks like, I don't know. But if I could do what Downey did for me, then I would be so content swinging off into the sunset."
A slightly more specific timeline was offered by Holland in an interview with the Associated Press. According to the actor, passing the mantle to a character like Miles Morales would be "a really awesome way to end my 10 years as Spider-Man." So, could Tom Holland's time as Peter Parker already be drawing to a close? It's worth remembering that his first solo film, "Spider-Man: Homecoming", premiered in theaters in 2017. With that in mind, it's entirely possible that Holland's time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is slowly coming to an end.
Miles Morales will first be seen again in animated form in the grand finale of the "Spider-Verse" series. "Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse" hits theaters on June 18, 2027.
Kevin Feige on Spider-Man 5
Kevin Feige is also keeping his cards close to his chest on this matter. The studio boss responded as follows when asked if there will be another movie with Tom Holland:
"There are always plans. But right now, he's going to rest after that global tour. He and Zendaya are going to take a good and restful victory lap, which they very much deserve."

Will director Destin Daniel Cretton return?
So there are already plans for a fifth "Spider-Man" movie. And right now, there are many indications that "Brand New Day" director Destin Daniel Cretton will also direct the sequel. In an interview with the industry portal Deadline, the filmmaker has already signaled his interest. Producer Amy Pascal would also like to collaborate with him again on the sequel. She emphasized to Deadline that, if it were up to those in charge behind the scenes, Cretton would also be the director of the next "Spider-Man" project.
While the first three installments of the Tom Holland series were directed by Jon Watts, Destin Daniel Cretton has now taken the creative helm for the first time. Previously, the director had already helmed the MCU film "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings."
