Lots of news from HBO: CEO Casey Bloys gave a comprehensive update on several highlight series during the 2025 Emmy Awards. He spoke to industry magazine Deadline about "House of the Dragon", "Euphoria", "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" and "The White Lotus", among others.

House of the Dragon Season 3

Bloys announced when the third season of "House of the Dragon" can be expected. The release will probably just miss the deadline for Emmy consideration for the awards in 2026. In other words, the new season of the "Game of Thrones" spin-off will be released after May 31, 2026. We can now assume a start date in early summer, possibly in June 2026. "House of the Dragon" is currently being filmed. According to reports, this should be completed in October.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

Another spin-off from the world of ice and fire will start earlier: "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms". This series is also based on a work by author George R.R. Martin. It centers on Duncan and his squire Egg. The two travel through Westeros a good century before the events in "Game of Thrones". The main roles are played by Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell. The series was originally scheduled to start in 2025. It will now be released in January 2026.

Euphoria Season 3

Bloys also commented on the hit series "Euphoria". Due to numerous delays behind the scenes, fans have been waiting almost four years for a new season. But there is some good news: The upcoming third season is set to premiere in spring 2026.

Whether the series has a future beyond that, however, is questionable. There have been rumors for some time about the series ending after season three. Bloys stated that he would leave the decision about the end to the producers. At the same time, he hinted that scheduling conflicts regarding the actors could hardly be avoided. Since the start of the series in 2019, several cast members have become sought-after Hollywood stars. These include Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi and Colman Domingo.

The White Lotus Season 4

There is also news about the anthology series "The White Lotus". Bloys has confirmed the setting of the fourth season. This time, the focus is on a luxury hotel in France. The previous seasons were set in Hawaii, Italy and Thailand. Series creator Mike White appears to be in France at the moment, working on the scripts.

True Detective Season 5 and Co.

Bloys was also asked about "True Detective" season 5. Recently, there were reports about the possible casting of Hollywood star Nicolas Cage. The HBO boss has not yet been able to confirm this. However, he added that he is a fan of the actor. The new "The Big Bang Theory" spin-off "Stuart Fails To Save The Universe" is also likely to appear on HBO Max in 2026. Meanwhile, the fourth season of "Industry" will be launched in January 2026. Of course, there's also the much-discussed "Harry Potter" series. However, it isn't set to premiere until 2027.

The Penguin

During the Emmys, the industry portal Variety also spoke to producer Matt Reeves about a possible sequel to "The Penguin". The HBO production was originally planned as a mini-series. However, talks are now underway regarding a second season.

"We're talking, so we'll see. We love the show, and we think our cast is so incredible."

At the Emmys themselves, Cristin Milioti won the award for "Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie". You can find an overview of the winners and nominees of the major series awards ceremony here.
