First Plot Details for Megan 2.0 Revealed
The sequel will be an action thriller
The horror film "M3GAN" became a surprise hit in 2023 and thrilled both critics and moviegoers. The film grossed 30 million US dollars on its opening weekend. As a result, the sequel "M3GAN 2.0" is now in the pipeline, for which the first plot details have now been revealed.
According to World of Reel, initial test screenings were behind the leaks. One viewer reported that the sequel is clearly different from the first movie. Quote:
"Very much a 180 in terms of tone."
While part 1 was a combination of horror and black comedy, the sequel is set to be an action thriller. Megan, once a menacing doll, has now become a begrudging heroine. Her main goal remains the same: to protect young Cady.
But this time she is up against a threat that is much more lifelike and has sinister intentions. We can expect action-packed chases and epic robot battles, among other things. But there will also be plenty of humor: There are said to be more dancing scenes and even moments in which Megan sings entire ballads. One viewer even compared the movie to "Terminator 2", in which the Terminator played by Arnold Schwarzenegger also changed sides and became a protector.
The cast of the predecessor will also be back in part 2: including Allison Williams as Gemma, Violet McGraw as Cady and Brian Jordan Alvarez in the role of Cole. The creepy doll Megan will once again be played by Amie Donald and voiced by Jenna Davis. The sequel will once again be directed and written by Gerard Johnstone and Akela Cooper. "M3GAN 2.0" is scheduled for release on June 27, 2025.
Fans of the killer doll have reason to be happy anyway, as the spin-off "SOULM8TE" is still in the works. The movie is set to tell a completely new story within the "Megan" universe and will be released in cinemas on January 2, 2026.
The Best Horror Movies with Killer Dolls - Scary Tips for Doll Horror Fans
Killer dolls are one of the most terrifying elements in the horror genre. Their vacant eyes, distorted smiles and unnatural movements trigger deep-rooted fears. Whether possessed by ghosts, created by a mad scientist or out of control through artificial intelligence, murderous dolls have caused countless nightmares over the last few decades. Here are some of the best horror tips with killer dolls that you shouldn't miss out on.
Child's Play (1988)
When it comes to horror with killer dolls, there is no way around "Child's Play". The movie tells the story of Charles Lee Ray, a serial killer who uses a voodoo spell to turn into the doll Chucky. What begins as a harmless toy quickly turns out to be a bloodthirsty killer who combines his murderous intentions with black humor. The success of Chucky led to several sequels.
Annabelle (2014)
"Annabelle" is one of the most famous modern killer dolls. The creepy porcelain doll first appeared in "The Conjuring" (2013) and was quickly given its own movie series due to its eerie presence.
The first "Annabelle" movie (2014) tells the story of a young family who are haunted by supernatural events after bringing the ominous doll into their home. The prequel "Annabelle 2" (2017), which sheds light on the doll's sinister origins, is particularly intriguing. "Annabelle 3" (2019) finally brings the horror icon into the world of the "Conjuring" universe and offers some of the scariest scenes in the film series.
Puppet Master (1989)
Anyone who likes retro-style killer dolls should watch the "Puppet Master" film series. The first movie from 1989 tells the story of a puppet maker who creates living, murderous puppets imbued with dark magic. Each of these dolls has special abilities, from bladed hands to supernatural powers. The series resulted in numerous sequels and became a true cult classic among horror fans.
Dead Silence (2007)
This underrated horror film comes from James Wan, the creator of "Saw" and "The Conjuring". "Dead Silence" revolves around a cursed ventriloquist doll and the dark legend of puppeteer Mary Shaw. The movie cleverly plays with classic horror elements and gives you goosebumps with its dark atmosphere. The creepy puppets and the disturbing setting in particular make "Dead Silence" an insider tip for anyone who likes it spooky.
Why are Horror Movies with Killer Dolls so Creepy?
But why do killer dolls cause so much terror? One of the main reasons is the so-called Uncanny Valley phenomenon: dolls look human-like, but just not entirely. This "almost real" appearance can make viewers feel uneasy. In addition, the idea of an inanimate toy suddenly coming to life and committing murder goes against our expectations of reality and thus intensifies the horror.
Horror movies with killer dolls are diverse and offer something for everyone - from classic ghost stories to brutal slashers and modern tech horror films. Whether you prefer retro horror, supernatural ghost stories or sci-fi thrillers, you're guaranteed to find the right scary movie for your next horror night in this list.
