Mel Gibson to Direct Lethal Weapon 5!
The film will deal with the subject of police violence
An action legend returns: Mel Gibson commented on the status of "Lethal Weapon 5" and revealed that he will be directing it.
It's been almost 26 years since we last went on patrol with Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh in "Lethal Weapon 4". Since then, rumors about the production of "Lethal Weapon 5" have been circulating – but little has happened.
However, that's all over now: In the "Inspire Me" podcast, Mel Gibson announced that he would comply with Richard Donner's request and take over the direction for part 5. Richard Donner, who directed the previous "Lethal Weapon" movies, had already written a first draft of the screenplay for part 5, which Gibson will now adapt and complete. According to initial information, "Lethal Weapon 5" will have a serious undertone alongside all the battles of words and will deal with the topic of police violence, among other things.
Gibson will of course be back in front of the camera with his colleague Danny Glover. It is not yet known when "Lethal Weapon 5" will be presented to us on the big screen. However, "Bad Boys" Martin Lawrence and Will Smith are currently proving that buddy cop movies will continue to enjoy great popularity in 2024. Eddie Murphy will likewise return this year in his role as Axel Foley in "Beverly Hills Cop 4". So the chances of a successful comeback for Riggs and Murtaught are not bad at all.
