Struggling with financial difficulties, single mother Callie (Carrie Coon) moves with her children Trevor (Finn Wolfhard) and Phoebe (Mckenna Grace) to her deceased father's run-down estate in a small backwater town in Oklahoma. Trevor, who is totally annoyed at first, soon makes the exciting discovery of some strange utensils in his grandfather's old estate - weapons and equipment which, according to his teacher Grooberson (Paul Rudd) , indicate that his grandfather was once a member of the legendary but largely forgotten "Ghostbusters". As Trevor and Phoebe begin to try out the technology with some new classmates, a mystical threat brews beneath the sleepy small town.
