London 1891. As the police investigate a series of gruesome murders, renowned explorer Sir Malcolm Murray and the strangely beautiful Vanessa Ives know there's something darker at play. In search of someone close to them who has been lost, they recruit American sharp-shooter Ethan Chandler and Dr. Victor Frankenstein to help them on their journey.

I'm a huge fan of the show! A group of great actors and written so well! Our lead Vanessa has a special way of seeing right through people for what they really are. Vanessa herself is hiding her own demons..."The Mother Of all Evil"! Adventures with the lead Vanessa Ives, and her partner in crime Sir Malcolm Murray. Together they fight off vampires, demons, witches, and Dracula in the flesh. Of course they have some help from close friends Mr. Lyle, Dr. Frankenstein, Sembene, and Mr. Chandler.

The film "Van Helsing" was stuck in my head after seeing the trailer for "Penny Dreadful". I wasn't exactly waiting for the show. The first episode had a great aesthetic but didn't strike me as a fresh take on Gothic Victorian literary tradition. Then the last minutes of episode 2 convinced me that the show could be the best thing ever for Gothic and the entire horror genre. It's refreshingly mature without the soft porn other shows think makes them mature and adult.

Penny Dreadful is as gorgeous in its cinematography, as it is brutal in its originality of story telling. The characters portrayed are lively and abundant in personality. Each scene leaves one wanting more and questioning answers one thought one knew. Though this series is 'Chalk-full' of sex and nudity, i stand by my score of, "Must-See".
