Deadpool Star Cast as Baldur in God of War Series
This cast really packs a punch!
The cast of the eagerly awaited "God of War" adaptation continues to grow. Amazon has now announced that "Deadpool" star Ed Skrein will be taking on the role of Baldur.
Baldur is Odin's youngest son. Despite his youthful appearance, Baldur is anything but harmless. He only accepts rules if they serve his own goals – otherwise, he uncompromisingly follows his own code. His inner turmoil stems from a childhood curse that robbed him of the ability to feel physical sensations or joy. This emotional void feeds a burning rage that drives Baldur and makes him an unstoppable force of nature. This inner turmoil is also reflected in his fighting style. Instead of elegant technique, he relies on brute force. He attacks his opponents with brutal directness and overwhelming physical strength.
In addition to Skrein, the series already boasts an impressive cast. "Sons of Anarchy" actor Ryan Hurst takes on the role of Kratos, while Callum Vinson plays his son Atreus. Also confirmed are Teresa Palmer as Phoebe/Sif, Max Parker as Heimdall, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson in the role of the thunder god Thor.
Amazon has also released the first image of the two main characters, Kratos and Atreus. You can find out more here. Although a specific release date for the first season has not yet been announced, Amazon already seems very confident about the "God of War" series. A second season has already been officially confirmed.
Ed Skrein's most famous films
Ed Skrein has established himself as a versatile actor in international cinema in recent years. The British actor, who started out as a rapper, made his breakthrough on the big screen with intense, often edgy roles. Whether as a ruthless villain, uncompromising action hero, or charismatic supporting character, Skrein impresses with his physical presence, striking charisma, and raw energy. Below is an overview of his most famous films.
Breakthrough as a villain in Deadpool (2016)
Skrein became known to a global audience primarily through his role as Ajax in the Marvel blockbuster "Deadpool". Alongside Ryan Reynolds, he played the cold-blooded antagonist Francis Freeman, better known as Ajax.
The film, which stood out from other superhero films with its self-deprecating humor and uncompromising depiction of violence, was a huge box office success. Skrein played the emotionless scientist with cool precision, creating a credible antagonist for the eponymous antihero. His portrayal of a controlled, almost emotionless villain impressively demonstrated his ability to imbue menacing characters with subtle nuance.
Action-packed leading role in The Transporter Refueled (2015)
In "The Transporter Refueled", Skrein took on the iconic role of Frank Martin, previously played by Jason Statham. The reboot of the popular action series once again featured spectacular car chases, precisely choreographed fight scenes, and a stylish look.
This was an important career step for Skrein, as it was his first time appearing as the sole action lead. He brought a slightly younger, more modern interpretation of the character to the role, combining elegance with physical toughness. Even though the film did not quite match the success of its predecessors, Skrein proved that he has what it takes to be an international action star.
Historical war drama: Midway (2019)
Skrein appeared as US pilot Dick Best in Roland Emmerich's war film "Midway". The film recounts the events surrounding the decisive naval battle in the Pacific during World War II.
Skrein embodied the determined and courageous pilot with a mixture of bravery and vulnerability. Amidst bombastic effects and large battle scenes, he managed to give his character emotional depth. "Midway" showed another facet of his talent: less stylized action, but more historical seriousness and dramatic intensity.

Gloomy fantasy appearance in Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019)
In the fantasy adventure "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil" with Angelina Jolie, Skrein played the scheming Borra, leader of a dark warrior tribe. As a military antagonist, Skrein brought a menacing presence to the fairy-tale world. His performance was characterized by coldness and strategic calculation, allowing him to fit seamlessly into the visually opulent Disney universe. Here, too, he once again demonstrated his talent for complex antagonists.

Other notable projects
In addition to these major productions, Skrein also appeared in films such as "Kill Your Friends" (2015), a satirical take on the British music industry, and the thriller "The Informer" (2019). His versatility is particularly evident in smaller, more intense roles, where he often plays morally ambivalent characters.
Ed Skrein has established himself in the international film business within just a few years. His filmography is characterized by action, suspense, and strong supporting roles in major productions. He is particularly often cast as the antagonist – a role that suits him perfectly.
At the same time, he proves that he is more than just the classic villain. Whether in war dramas, fantasy epics, or modern action thrillers, Skrein brings intensity, professionalism, and an unmistakable presence to the screen. With more major projects in the pipeline, his name is likely to continue to appear regularly in international cinema productions in the future.
