The Beekeeper 2: Release Date for the Jason Statham Sequel Announced
With "Shelter", another Jason Statham action film is just around the corner
More for Jason Statham fans: the Hollywood star returns in "The Beekeeper 2"! Following the success of the first film, the sequel to the action thriller is in the pipeline. Amazon MGM has now officially announced the release date.
The cast is already known: In addition to Statham as Adam Clay, acting icon Jeremy Irons is once again part of the crew. Emmy Raver-Lampman is also returning for the sequel. New cast members include MCU and "Mission Impossible" actress Pom Klementieff. Yara Shahidi, known from the novel adaptation "The Sun is Also a Star", is also part of the cast.
Details of the plot are not yet known. The first film revolves around beekeeper Adam Clay, who embarks on a relentless vendetta after the death of a friend. What initially seems like personal retribution soon turns out to be part of a much larger conspiracy. Adam Clay was once a member of a secret organization – an uncompromising elite that keeps order in secret. If you have missed "The Beekeeper" so far, you can currently stream the film on Amazon Prime Video.
There is a change behind the camera in the sequel. While Part 1 was still directed by David Ayer, Timo Tjahjanto is now taking over as director. The Indonesian is best known for his particularly tough action film "The Night Comes for Us". His most recent film was "Nobody 2" with Bob Odenkirk. So can Tjahjanto direct action sequels? Jason Statham: the uncompromising action hero
Few actors stand for 21st century action cinema as consistently as Jason Statham. With his distinctive voice, stoic gaze and uncompromising physique, the Brit has earned himself a permanent place in Hollywood over the past two decades.
Statham embodies action heroes with toughness, dry humor and direct physicality. He is not an actor of great emotions – nor does he want to be. His success is based on clarity: clear characters, clear morals, clear action. His trademark: Characters who don't talk much, but rather act. When his name is on the poster, the audience knows what they are getting. This is exactly what fans around the world appreciate, which is why Statham has brought numerous action films to the big screen over the past decades.
The action films of Jason Statham
His breakthrough as an action star came with "The Transporter". As Frank Martin, a taciturn courier with strict rules, Statham defined his screen image. Fast-paced car chases, tough fights and precise choreography made "The Transporter" an extremely popular action film. Its success led to two sequels starring Statham. He embodied one of the most radical roles of his career in the "Crank" films. Statham plays a contract killer who only stays alive as long as his adrenaline levels are high. "Crank" is loud, fast, absurd and has become a cult film over the years.
With the role of Deckard Shaw in "Fast & Furious 7", Statham became part of one of the biggest action franchises in the world. From antagonist to audience favorite, he quickly developed into an important character in the series. The spin-off "Hobbs & Shaw" with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in particular put him in the spotlight. Statham was also seen in the nostalgic action series "The Expendables" with Sylvester Stallone.
In the "Meg" films, the superstar ventured into the deep sea. Statham took on further roles in the Guy Ritchie films "Snatch" and "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels". The action star has worked with Ritchie several times – and a new project is already in the pipeline: "Viva La Madness" ! Find out all the details here.
