With global box office takings of over 1.3 billion dollars, "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" was one of the most successful movies of the past year. No wonder, then, that Illumination and Nintendo are eager to make a sequel. As part of Mario Day, the release date for part 2 has now been revealed.

In an uploaded video, we are greeted by none other than Mario inventor Shigeru Miyamoto himself, who expresses his gratitude for the overwhelming success of part 1. Shortly afterwards, Illumination boss Chris Meledandri announced that work on "Super Mario Bros. 2" is already well underway and that the movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on April 3, 2026.

According to Miyamoto-san, part 2 will once again present us with a fun story based on the world of "Super Mario Bros." Whether this is indeed going to be a traditional sequel or a completely new adventure, remains unclear, though.

But one thing is certain: the world of Super Mario offers more than enough possibilities to tell entertaining stories. We are very excited!
