New Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson Movie for Hit Studio A24
A film with Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese is also in the works.
Dwayne Johnson's career seems to be taking a new direction: there are a number of projects coming up in the near future that would not have been associated with the action star in the past. The industry magazine Deadline is now reporting that a psychological thriller starring Johnson is to be made for the successful studio A24.
The film is called "Breakthrough". Johnson plays a motivational guru with a great deal of charm. However, this conceals his morally questionable methods and his dark side. Johnson is not meant to embody the protagonist. The focus is on a young man who falls under the guru's influence. There is no information yet on the casting of this character.
One thing is certain: This project sounds completely new for Dwayne Johnson. He normally works mainly in the action genre. But this is not the first film announcement that has made people sit up and take notice. The former wrestler will soon be seen in "The Smashing Machine". In it, he plays MMA fighter Mark Kerr during his most successful period in the UFC. The themes are addiction, success and love. The film will be in theaters starting October 3, 2025.

Dwayne Johnson and Martin Scorsese
In the coming years, he will probably also be in front of the camera for master director Martin Scorsese. His announced film will tell the story of a mafia boss in Hawaii in the 60s and 70s. Also taking part are Hollywood stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Emily Blunt. But Johnson will of course remain true to himself with other projects: he will once again be seen as Hobbs in "Fast & Furious 11".
The most popular films with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson
Fast & Furious series
Dwayne Johnson has long since established himself as one of the biggest action stars in the current Hollywood world. He cemented his status primarily through the "Fast & Furious" films. Dwayne Johnson was introduced to the franchise as Luke Hobbs in the fifth installment, "Fast Five". Johnson's entry gave the series a new boost: he helped transform the franchise from a street racing drama to a global action series. The popularity of Johnson's character also ensured the spin-off "Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw". There, "The Rock" can be seen alongside Jason Statham.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle & Jumanji: The Next Level
The reinterpretation of the "Jumanji" universe has so far produced two films: "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" and "Jumanji: The Next Level". The films combine adventure, comedy and fantasy elements and are aimed at a broad audience. Johnson benefited from his image as an action actor with comedic potential. Both films went on to become global box office successes. Another film is already being planned.

San Andreas
In the disaster film "San Andreas", Johnson plays a rescue pilot who embarks on a dramatic mission to save his daughter and ex-wife during a gigantic earthquake. The film is a classic representative of the disaster movie genre and focuses on spectacular scenes of destruction.

Moana
In Disney's animated film about a young Polynesian explorer, Johnson plays the character Maui. The role showed Johnson from a new side: as a singer, voice actor and family film star. "Moana" was a box office success, which led to a sequel in the form of "Moana 2".

Skyscraper
In the action film "Skyscraper", Johnson plays a security chief with a prosthetic leg. He has to climb a burning skyscraper to save his family. The story is reminiscent of classics such as "Die Hard". "Scream" star Neve Campbell is also part of the cast.
Jungle Cruise
Inspired by the Disney theme park attraction of the same name, Johnson plays the adventurous captain Frank in "Jungle Cruise". Together with a determined explorer (played by Emily Blunt), he is on a quest to find a magical tree. The mixture of adventure, magic and romantic chemistry is reminiscent of adventure films such as "Indiana Jones" or "The Mummy". Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson seem to get on well. The actress will be seen alongside the action star in both the announced Scorsese film and in "The Smashing Machine".
