The "Ocean's" film series is getting a new installment! In an interview with the entertainment portal E! News, lead actor George Clooney has now shared a big update on "Ocean's 14". The script for the sequel has been around for a while, and now distributor Warner has finally given the green light for the budget. A rough schedule is already in place, with filming slated to begin next year. Specifically, Clooney expects filming to start in nine to ten months.

The cast of Ocean's 14

Clooney also sounded optimistic regarding the cast. It looks like we can expect a major reunion with some familiar faces from the franchise. When asked about this, the Hollywood star explicitly mentioned four actors: Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle and Julia Roberts.

"They're all still really dear friends. And so, the chance to work together would be fun."

The concept of the new sequel is said to be reminiscent of the movie "Going in Style", in which a trio of senior citizens plans a bank robbery. According to the industry magazine Variety, "Bullet Train" director David Leitch is currently the favorite to direct "Ocean's 14". So far, a release date has not been announced.

The phenomenon of the 'Ocean's' film series

The "Ocean's" films are one of the best-known and most stylish heist films in modern history. The modern series began with "Ocean's Eleven", a remake of the 1960 film of the same name. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, the franchise became an audience favorite – with charm, cleverness and a top-class ensemble.

The films at a glance

The modern "Ocean's" trilogy includes:

A spin-off was added later:

The first three films revolve around the charismatic master thief Danny Ocean (played by George Clooney) and his crew. "Ocean's 8" brings a new generation into play, led by Sandra Bullock as Debbie Ocean, Danny's sister.

Star cast with charisma

A key success factor is the cast: George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, Don Cheadle, Andy Garcia – few other film series can boast such a concentration of star power. The chemistry between the actors is authentic and charming. "Ocean's 8" also features well-known names such as Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna and Helena Bonham Carter.

Style and aesthetics

Soderbergh's signature style is evident in the stylized camera work, the elegant use of colour and the cool, jazzy soundtrack. The films exude a lightness that is reminiscent of classic Hollywood rogue films, but now staged in a modern way. The fashion and the locations (Las Vegas, Rome, New York) contribute to the vibe of the films.

Intelligent heist plots

The focus is always on a spectacular coup: a casino robbery, an art heist, a manipulated game of chance. The plans are complicated, full of twists and usually only fully understandable at the end. This play with expectations and deceptions is what makes the films so appealing – the viewer becomes part of the game.

Humor and self-irony

Despite the sometimes complex plots, the films never take themselves too seriously. They skillfully balance suspense and humour, with ironic dialogues and situation comedy. Brad Pitt's constant hunger, Matt Damon's insecurities and the running gags provide a charming lightness of touch.

The charm of the gangsters

A central aspect of the movie's popularity is the appeal and charm of the gangsters. The "Ocean's" crew don't steal out of need or greed – they rob rich, corrupt opponents, who are often portrayed as arrogant antagonists. Viewers root for the "good crooks" because they have style, show principles and outsmart the powerful.

Cultural influence and legacy

The "Ocean's" films have revitalized the genre of heist movies. Their mix of coolness, cleverness and cast was often copied and rarely equaled. The spin-off "Ocean's 8" also tried to continue this spirit with a female perspective – with a mixed response.

With wit, sophistication, coolness and style, the "Ocean's" series shows that a perfectly executed plan, coupled with perfect casting, can captivate the audience time and time again. As a result, the "Ocean's" films have long since become a cult series.

The next Clooney film: Jay Kelly

For George Clooney, there is another movie coming up first. Together with "Marriage Story" director Noah Baumbach, he has made the Netflix film "Jay Kelly". Clooney plays a famous actor who embarks on a trip through Europe with his manager (Adam Sandler). Before the film is released on the streaming service on December 5, it can also be seen in selected cinemas from November 14.
