"Prey" Director Makes New "Predator" Movie
"Prey" was nominated for an Emmy
Another hunt is about to begin: director Dan Trachtenberg will be in charge of a new "Predator" film. The sequel "Prey 2" is also in the works.
With the prequel "Prey", the "Predator" franchise was given another film in 2022, which delighted fans and critics alike. 20th Century Studios was also pleased and has now commissioned director Dan Trachtenberg to further expand the cinematic universe.
As Deadline reports, Trachtenberg will direct and write the screenplay for a standalone "Predator" film titled "Badlands". The film is a top priority for the studio, so they are already eagerly searching for a potential cast. The plot of "Badlands" is currently being kept under wraps. What is certain, however, is that the film will once again revolve around the alien big game hunter.
According to insider sources, "Prey 2" is also still in the works, for which Amber Midthunter is set to return in her role as Naru. Although the sequel is still in the early stages of development, it seems that 20th Century is looking to create some continuity in the cast. That would be completely new for the franchise: in the seven films to date, no lead actor has ever returned for another installment.
The release plans for "Badlands" and "Prey 2" are currently unknown. However, given the success of "Prey", it could be that the studio is focusing on different platforms. After the film was streamed exclusively on Hulu in the United States and on Disney+ internationally, the chances of "Badlands" being released in cinemas are not bad at all - after all, the upcoming "Alien: Romulus" will also get a theatrical release.
