Martin Scorsese Plans a New Jesus Film
The film is said to be only 80 minutes long
Directing legend Martin Scorsese is back with a new project: after the acclaimed western "Killers of the Flower Moon", another "Jesus" film is now set to follow.
In an interview with the LA Times, Martin Scorsese reported that he wants to dedicate his next project to Jesus once again. The novel "A Life of Jesus", written by Shuasho Endo and published in 1973, will be used as inspiration. In contrast to his previous Jesus film "The Last Temptation of Christ", the new film will only run for around 80 minutes - almost a short film by Scorsese's standards. The plot of the film will be set in the present day and will deal with the core teachings of Jesus - however, Scorsese firmly emphasizes that he does not want to pursue a missionary approach. Filming is set to begin in the course of 2024.
Things are likely to be less subtle in Mel Gibson's sequel "The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection Part 1", which we can also expect to see in the next few years. According to initial information, the film will deal with Jesus' descent into hell - Gibson himself described the film as an "acid trip".
