With "Lanterns", the next DCU project is already in development and is set to be written by two renowned showrunners.

According to Variety, these are Damon Lindelof and Chris Mundy. Lindelof has made a name for himself in the TV landscape through his role as co-creator and showrunner of the successful science fiction series "Lost". He was also responsible for the 2019 HBO mini-series "Watchmen" and the supernatural HBO series "The Leftovers".

Chris Mundy, though, may have achieved greater fame with the Netflix series "Ozark". He also served as an executive producer for the fourth season of "True Detective".

The "Green Lantern" series, simply titled "Lanterns", was first announced in January last year by James Gunn and Peter Safran and is part of the newly launched DC universe. Safran described the series at the time as a huge HBO-quality event that will be very much in the style of "True Detective".

"Lanterns" will focus on two of the most famous members of the Green Lantern Corps: Hal Jordan and John Stewart. Hal Jordan was first portrayed by Ryan Reynolds in "Green Lantern" in 2011. John Stewart, an ex-Marine and one of DC's first black superheroes, will also play a central role. Together they investigate a mystery that, according to Safran, will lead into the main story of the previous movies and series.
