The Wayans brothers will write the screenplay

"Scary Movie" is going into the next round and two absolute veterans are also back on board! According to a report in the industry magazine Deadline, Regina Hall and Anna Faris will be reprising their roles as Brenda and Cindy.

The two actresses expressed their excitement to be part of "Scary Movie 6". Quote:

"We can't wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn and Marlon – three men we'd literally die for."

Notably, the Wayans brothers are working together again for the first time in almost two decades for the new film. Together with their long-time creative partner Rick Alvarez, they are writing a completely new screenplay. Michael Tiddes, who has worked with the Wayans brothers on several occasions, will direct the film.

Filming is scheduled to begin in October. The theatrical release is set for June 12, 2026 – worldwide via Paramount Pictures. Looking at the current cinema landscape, the timing for the comeback couldn't be better: Horror films have dominated the box office for months and have already reached saturation point in many places.

Tears of laughter guaranteed: These movies are made for fans of "Scary Movie"

Sometimes you don't need profound dramas, complicated hero's journeys and certainly no scary horror films. Sometimes you just need movies that are so stupid you almost forget to catch your breath from laughing. That's exactly why there are parodies and comedies that delightfully don't take themselves seriously. Anyone who loves "Scary Movie" will also celebrate these gems – slapstick, alien shame and complete absurdity included.

White Chicks: comedy of mistaken identity in XXL format

In 2004, Shawn and Marlon Wayans slip into roles that are actually impossible: two FBI agents disguise themselves as blonde high-society sisters. The make-up alone is pure comedy, but the chaos they cause in the rich upper class is simply legendary.

The dance duels, the banter and the fact that everyone pretends not to notice – that's what makes it so appealing. Anyone who doesn't laugh here has probably forgotten how to have fun. Cindy would probably think the whole thing was a beauty contest, while Brenda would be screaming "Hold my poodle!" after two minutes.

Not another teen movie: the parody of everything that goes wrong in high school

In 2001, this movie set out to mercilessly dismantle every teen movie cliché. And it works: The unassuming girl with glasses who suddenly becomes prom-queen material, the football hero who can barely get a straight sentence out, and of course the inevitable shower scene. It's like a best-of of all the high school clichés – only on speed. Anyone who laughed at the exaggerated characters in "Scary Movie" will shed a tear here. You almost wish Brenda would make a guest appearance just to show everyone how to start a real fight at the prom.

Superbad: puberty with fits of laughter

A movie about two nerds who just want to go to the party of the year – and do everything wrong that can be done wrong. Jonah Hill, Michael Cera and McLovin stumble from one embarrassment to the next.

The brilliant thing is that everyone can find themselves a little bit in these characters. Who hasn't used a stupid excuse just to get in somewhere? It's precisely this mixture of alien shame and absurdly funny moments that makes "Superbad" a modern classic. If Brenda had been in this movie, she would probably have been the first to be caught with a fake ID – and Cindy would wonder why McLovin doesn't have a surname.

Hot Shots!: the air force of laughter

In the 90s, Charlie Sheen proved that you can even turn a movie about pilots into a gag parade. "Hot Shots!" takes on "Top Gun", but and other action classics also get their comeuppance. The jokes come one after the other, and sometimes you don't even know whether you're laughing at a gag or at the utter chaos. If you like "Scary Movie", you have to watch this – it's like an older brother who showed how to lovingly pull Hollywood through the cocoa back then.

21 Jump Street: when undercover gets too embarrassing

Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as two police officers who have to go back to school undercover: a recipe for plenty of embarrassment. One too uncool, the other too cool – and both completely out of place. The result: explosions, failed drug tests and lots of stupid remarks. Just the right movie to get ready for a dose of "Scary Movie" humor. Brenda would be caught out immediately for wearing her school uniform the wrong way round, and Cindy would think she was suddenly an FBI agent in chemistry class.

Shaun of the Dead: British humor meets zombie apocalypse

Yes, strictly speaking a horror movie - but one that is so much fun that you almost forget that the world is coming to an end. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost stumble through the zombie apocalypse while all they really want to do is have a pint in the pub. The whole thing is a perfect mix of horror and slapstick – and anyone who likes "Scary Movie" will love the absurd scenes here too. Cindy would definitely try to politely turn the zombies away, while Brenda sings karaoke in the pub after five minutes while chaos reigns around her.

The Naked Cannon: the slapstick book in three parts

If there's one movie that can be described as a must-read for comedy fans, it's "The Naked Gun". Leslie Nielsen stumbles from disaster to disaster as detective Frank Drebin and solves every case in the process – although he actually makes everything worse. From absurd puns to completely over-the-top action sequences, everything is included. Anyone who doesn't laugh here definitely has no sense of humor. Brenda would probably be the assistant here who accidentally burns down the crime scene while Cindy asks the corpse why it's dead.

Conclusion: Movies for abs instead of goosebumps

Whether it's "White Chicks", "Hot Shots!" or "The Naked Gun" – these films show that comedy works best when you don't take it too seriously. They are all like a big training session for the diaphragm muscle ache that "Scary Movie 6" is guaranteed to give us. So: get some popcorn, invite your friends over, have a movie night and laugh so loud that even your neighbor will think you're watching horror. Because let's be honest: who needs monsters when you've got Brenda and Cindy?
