Cillian Murphy in talks for the role of Dr. Doom

Oppenheimer as a villain in the MCU? At least if it goes according to the wishes of the fans. Now Cillian Murphy has spoken out about the rumors for the first time and expressed great interest in the role.

Currently, Cillian Murphy is still thrilling in his role of J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan's eponymous film "Oppenheimer" and is already considered a hot candidate for the upcoming Oscars. In the wake of the success of "Oppenheimer", voices were repeatedly raised calling for Murphy to be cast as Dr. Doom in the new "Fantastic Four".

In ScreenRant's "Happy Sad Confused" podcast, the star spoke out about the rumors for the first time and revealed that he would be only too happy to slip into the role of Dr. Doom. However, only under one condition: The script would have to be right!

"It's always about the script. [...] If someone sends a script, I'll read it. And you never know what turns up... That's what I love about this business."

Furthermore, he believes characters need to feel strong and real, which is why he found his role of Scarecrow in Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins" so exciting. In the case of Dr. Doom, all aspects would have to be taken into account that would make the role feel new and fresh and set it apart from the previous - more theatrical - production.

It is now up to the authors to put these wishes and conditions into practice. However, this is currently likely to prove rather difficult, because the strike of the writers and actors still exists and prevents all productions.

The new "Fantastic Four" film (which is scheduled for April 2025) currently has no fixed cast. Besides Cillian Murphy, John Krasinski is an absolute fan favorite and already proved in "Doctor Strange 2" that he would have been the perfect casting for Mr. Fantastic. However, a return of Krasinski in this role currently seems out of the question. So it remains to be seen whether we will at least see Cillian Murphy in the Marvel movie.
