First Impression of Bob Odenkirk in Nobody 2

The sequel is set to be much more colorful

By Jonas Reichel on

Hard-hitting action guaranteed: Bob Odenkirk will once again provide law and order in "Nobody 2". We can now have a first look at the action hero.

It should come as no surprise that the sequel will also be full of uncompromising action. Fittingly, we see Bob Odenkirk in the role of Hutch Mansell – covered in blood and armed with a submachine gun.

Director Timo Tjahjanto told Empire magazine that "Nobody 2" will be much more colorful and summery than its predecessor – whatever that may mean. Apparently they are planning to distance themselves from the gloomier approach of "Nobody" and give the character a new look.

Alongside Bob Odenkirk, we will also get to see Connie Nielsen, Sharon Stone, John Ortiz and, of course, Christopher Lloyd, who already played the father of Odenkirk's character in the previous film. The movie has already completed filming and will be released in US theaters on August 15, 2025.

Nobody (2021) : An action-packed surprise success

The action thriller "Nobody", directed by Ilya Naishuller and released in 2021, is an unexpected gem of the genre. Starring Bob Odenkirk – known from the series "Better Call Saul" – the film delivers an explosive mix of merciless action, black humor and surprising emotionality. Nobody takes the audience on a journey through the abysses of everyday life and shows that a deadly secret can lurk beneath the façade of a seemingly ordinary man.

The plot: from inconspicuous man to merciless avenger

Hutch Mansell (Bob Odenkirk) leads an unremarkable life. He is a seemingly average family man, trapped in a monotonous routine between his work, his distant marriage and his daily duties. But this routine is suddenly interrupted when two burglars break into his house. Instead of fighting back, Hutch remains passive, much to the displeasure of his family, who interpret his inaction as weakness.

But the situation brings out something in Hutch that he has long kept hidden: his past as a dangerous contract killer working for secret government operations. When Hutch decides to confront his inner demons and regain control of his life, a chain reaction of violence begins, turning him against Russian gangster boss Yulian Kuznetsov (Aleksei Serebryakov) and his men.

The plot develops into a high-intensity game of cat-and-mouse in which Hutch reveals his hidden skills. With improvised weapons, brutal fighting techniques and an iron will, he shows that he is anything but a "nobody".

Bob Odenkirk: From lawyer to action hero

The choice of Bob Odenkirk as the lead actor was a surprise that turned out to be a brilliant move. Known for his humorous and dramatic roles in "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul", Odenkirk proved with "Nobody" that he can also convince as an action star.

Odenkirk prepared intensively for the role, underwent months of combat training and performed many of the action sequences himself. His portrayal of Hutch Mansell combines dry humor, vulnerability and an impressive physical presence. It is precisely this mixture that sets Nobody apart from other films in the genre.

Action meets black humor

One of the highlights of "Nobody" is its uncompromising action. The fights are brutal, but at the same time creatively choreographed. Particularly noteworthy is a spectacular scene on a bus in which Hutch takes out a group of attackers in an impressively raw manner. The film is never without humor: black humor and sarcastic dialogue lighten the dark atmosphere time and again.

The aesthetics of the film, paired with a driving soundtrack that reinterprets classics such as You'll Never Walk Alone and I've Gotta Be Me, give the work a unique identity. The staging is reminiscent of films such as "John Wick" – no coincidence, as Derek Kolstad, the creator of the "John Wick" series, also wrote the screenplay for "Nobody".
