The Odyssey is now Christopher Nolan's most successful film of all time
Spider-Man: Brand New Day also continues to be a massive hit at the box office
The success story continues: "The Odyssey" is now the most successful film director Christopher Nolan has ever made. After one month in theaters, the epic about Odysseus's wanderings has grossed $1.104 billion worldwide. With this, Nolan has surpassed the superhero blockbuster "The Dark Knight Rises" as the previous top-grossing movie in his filmography. The 2012 Batman film grossed a total of 1.085 billion. That's also a remarkable achievement – though "The Odyssey" is far from reaching its peak. The film is still playing in theaters, so the final total will end up even higher than the current 1.104 billion.
"The Odyssey" already set its first record upon its release a few weeks ago. Its opening weekend gross was $264.1 million. No other Nolan film has ever had such a successful global box office debut. And "The Odyssey" has since broken yet another record: The film is the highest-grossing IMAX release of all time – with global IMAX revenue of $289.3 million. For Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, and Robert Pattinson, "The Odyssey" is also proving to be a milestone at the box office. The film is the most successful of their respective careers, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
The Odyssey: A resounding success
Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" is based on Homer's epic poem, which is approximately 3,000 years old. Nolan directed the film and also wrote the screenplay. Along with Emma Thomas, he served as a producer. The film's cast features numerous A-list stars. Alongside Matt Damon as the protagonist Odysseus, as well as Anne Hathaway and Robert Pattinson, the film also stars Tom Holland, Lupita Nyong'o, Samantha Morton, John Leguizamo, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin, Elliot Page, and Benny Safdie.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is also a box office hit
Right now, however, it's not just "The Odyssey" that's causing a sensation at the box office. "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, continues to prove itself an impressive box-office force to be reckoned with. After just 12 days in theaters, the new superhero adventure starring Tom Holland has grossed $1.67 billion worldwide. Of that total, $1.01 billion comes from international markets outside the Marvel production's North American home. According to Variety, "Brand New Day" is the fastest film since "Avengers: Endgame" to reach the billion-dollar mark at the international box office.
The new "Spider-Man" adventure is already ranked 12th among the world's highest-grossing films of all time. If this trend continues, "Brand New Day" could even end up in the top 3 by the end of its run. It is also the highest-grossing film worldwide so far this year. Signs of this overwhelming success were already evident last week. At the domestic box office, "Brand New Day" grossed $360 million after its first weekend. In doing so, the film surpassed the previous record-breaking debut of "Avengers: Endgame" ($357 million) and achieved the most successful opening of all time at the domestic box office. At the global box office, "Spider-Man" grossed $932 million. That's the second-best debut of all time: only "Avengers: Endgame" managed to top that, when the Marvel blockbuster kicked off 2019 with $1.2 billion.
So as you can see, there's no getting around "The Odyssey" and "Spider-Man" right now. Especially since Tom Holland is on board for both films – in "The Odyssey" as the son of Odysseus and in "Brand New Day" as Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man. Alongside Holland, the "Spider-Man" ensemble includes Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Florence Pugh, Tramell Tillman, and Mark Ruffalo.
