News about the Man of Steel: Shooting on James Gunn's new "Superman" movie has begun - fittingly on February 29, the comic figure's official birthday.

At the same time, the director announced a change of title: after the project had long been called "Superman: Legacy", the name of the reboot is now simply "Superman" - another sign that they are really serious about the new beginning.

James Gunn's Instagram post containing the announcement also included a first look at the new costume. Not much can be seen in the close-up of the familiar Superman logo, however, it is covered in snow. This is a reference to the Fortress of Solitude, the main character's retreat in the Arctic - scenes are currently being filmed in Norway.

A selfie with the cast of the film recently gave further insight into the project. The clean-shaven Nicholas Hoult, who will play the villain Lex Luthor, is particularly striking. David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan play the leading roles.

"Superman" marks the beginning of the new DCU and will be released in cinemas on July 11, 2025.
