"The Penguin" Creators Talk About the Connections to The Batman 2
Further Batman series are also being planned
In September, the HBO series "The Penguin" with Colin Farrell will be released. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Matt Reeves, showrunner Lauren LeFranc and producer Dylan Clark spoke about the connection to "The Batman 2" and other plans for the franchise.
"The Penguin" picks up a week after the events of "The Batman": Mafia boss Carmine Falcone is dead and there's a power vacuum. According to LeFranc, the series is a Scarface story and deals with Oswald Cobblepot alias Penguin's path to the pinnacle of power.
Originally, Reeves and Clark had various Batman spin-offs in mind, such as a series about the Gotham City Police Department or Arkham Asylum. Parts of these concepts have now been incorporated into "The Penguin" series.
Of course, there's the big question of whether Robert Pattinson will also star as Batman in the series. Those involved are remaining silent on the matter, pointing to the law of the underworld: no traitors. They do, however, make it clear that "The Penguin" will serve as a link between the two Batman movies and lead almost directly to the story of the sequel. The theatrical release of "The Batman 2" is currently scheduled for October 2, 2026 after a considerable postponement.
But that is by no means all: producer Clark reveals that they would like to realize further TV projects for their so-called "Batman Epic Crime Saga" in the future. They are thus currently investigating exactly which possibilities the world of crime in Gotham City still has to offer. We are very excited! But first, "The Penguin" premieres on HBO in September. And we are looking forward to it!
