The time has finally come: the eagerly awaited "Mission: Impossible 8", in which Tom Cruise goes on another mission as Ethan Hunt, will finally be released next year. The movie had to deal with massive issues during its production, but everything seems to have gone well in the end. According to Hollywood insider DanielRPK, we can expect a first trailer soon - on November 11 in fact! Of course, we'll provide you with the trailer here as soon as it comes out!

What exactly Ethan Hunt's new adventure will be about is still a matter of speculation. However, it is clear that "Mission: Impossible 8" will tie in with the end of "Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning". For the first time in the series' history, two movies will tell a continuous story.

As with the previous three movies, Christopher McQuarrie is responsible for the direction and screenplay. In front of the camera, of course, we once again see the crew around Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames and Hayley Atwell. The same applies to other important characters from the predecessor, such as Esai Morales as Gabriel, Shea Whigham as a CIA agent and Vanessa Kirby as the White Widow. Pom Klementieff, who appeared as an assassin in part 7 and almost died, will also return for the new film. Initial rumors suggest that Jeremy Renner could also return in his role. "Mission: Impossible 8" will be released in cinemas on May 23, 2025.

The "Mission: Impossible" Movies: A Look Back at the Cult Series

The "Mission: Impossible" series is one of the most successful action franchises in movie history and has become a true pop culture phenomenon since its debut in 1996. Starring Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt, an imperturbable secret agent, the movies are known for their spectacular stunts, daring action sequences and complex storylines. There are now seven movies, and the eighth installment is already in the works. Here is an overview of all the movies to date.

1. Mission: Impossible (1996)

"Mission: Impossible" was directed by Brian De Palma and laid the foundation for the franchise. The movie is based on the 1960s TV series of the same name and follows Ethan Hunt, an agent of the secret Impossible Mission Force (IMF), who is being hunted as a traitor after a failed mission by the organization. Ethan must prove his innocence while uncovering a conspiracy that reaches deep into the IMF's own ranks. The movie is best known for its iconic scene in which Ethan Hunt steals information while hanging from wires in a high-security room. The success of the film, which grossed more than 450 million dollars around the globe, resulted in a sequel for the franchise and established Tom Cruise as an action star.

2. Mission: Impossible 2 (2000)

The second part was directed by John Woo, the master of stylized action cinema. "Mission: Impossible 2" offers a different, visually impressive style with lots of slow-motion shots, doves and breathtaking fighting scenes. Ethan Hunt must stop the dangerous villain Sean Ambrose (played by Dougray Scott), who releases a deadly virus that could threaten humanity.

Although the movie deviated stylistically, it was a financial success and almost doubled the box office takings of the first part. Tom Cruise's courage to perform breakneck stunts was a highlight of the film - especially the climbing scene at the beginning, which was filmed without the use of safety ropes.

3. Mission: Impossible 3 (2006)

With J.J. Abrams directing, "Mission: Impossible 3" took on a more emotional and darker direction. Ethan Hunt, who at this point had retired from active duty to lead a normal life with his fiancée Julia (played by Michelle Monaghan), is forced back into action when his former protégé is kidnapped.

The villain Owen Davian, played by Philip Seymour Hoffman, is considered one of the most terrifying adversaries in the series. Abrams brought a more intense emotional depth to the story by focusing more on Hunt's personal life and relationships. The movie was praised by critics and revitalized the franchise after a six-year hiatus.

4. Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011)

This part marks a turning point for the series. With Brad Bird as director and Tom Cruise taking his daredevil stunts to a new level, "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" put a heavier focus on teamwork. The IMF is disbanded after a bomb attack on the Kremlin, and Ethan Hunt must save the world from a global nuclear war without resources or an official mission.

One of the most memorable scenes in the movie is Cruise's climb up the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world. This scene was shot without the use of CGI, which added to the authenticity and thrill of the movie. Part 4 was a huge success and grossed almost 700 million dollars worldwide.

5. Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation (2015)

Christopher McQuarrie took over the direction of "Rogue Nation" and helped the series to even greater success. Ethan Hunt and his team have to fight against the "Syndicate" organization, an international rogue secret society that has set itself the task of destroying the IMF.

One of the most spectacular scenes in the movie shows Tom Cruise clinging to a plane taking off - a stunt he once again performed himself. Working with British agent Ilsa Faust (played by Rebecca Ferguson) also added to the movie's dynamics. The film cemented the legacy of the series and paved the way for the next installment.

6. Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018)

With "Mission: Impossible - Fallout", the film series hit its peak thus far. Once again directed by McQuarrie, the movie offered some of the best action sequences in the entire franchise. In this installment, Ethan Hunt has to deal with the consequences of his previous decisions and at the same time prevent a global catastrophe from being unleashed.

The action in the movie is simply breathtaking, especially the helicopter chase through the mountains and the pursuit through Paris. The fight sequence in the bathroom is also considered one of the film's highlights. The movie was celebrated by critics and audiences alike and once again earned 790 million dollars worldwide.

7. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning (2023)

The seventh installment, "Mission: Impossible 7: Dead Reckoning", is the first of a two-part story that is supposed to usher in the grand finale for the franchise. The movie shows Ethan Hunt searching for a mysterious new weapon that could change the fate of the world. Once again directed by Christopher McQuarrie, the movie features the usual spectacular stunts, including a breathtaking motorcycle cliff scene. Hayley Atwell joins the cast as a new pivotal character, and the movie is once again set to be a worldwide blockbuster.
