Christian Bale will take on the role of Frankenstein in Maggie Gyllenhaal's upcoming project. In an interview, the actor revealed the first details about the project.

Bale revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that he will soon be in front of the camera for an as yet untitled film by Maggie Gyllenhaal. According to initial information, his character is Frankenstein, who travels to Chicago in the 1930s to find a companion for himself with the help of Dr. Euphronius. Together they revive a murdered young woman - the Bride is born.

Christian Bale is known for fully immersing himself in his roles and putting his body through a lot in the process: For "The Machinist", for example, he reduced his weight by 31 kilos - for his role in "American Hustle", he gained 20 kilos. Although the character of Frankenstein currently involves far fewer changes, the actor still had to shave off his hair. He is also apparently working on his height:

"I've got to get busy getting on the rack, breaking my bones and eating lots of fertilizer or something to try and grow."

Joining Bale in the cast are Jessie Buckley, Annette Bening, Penelope Cruz and Peter Sarsgaard. The film was originally supposed to be made for Netflix - it later went to Warner Bros. A release date is not yet known.
