X-Men Reboot: Rumor about new Beast actor
The actor's most recent role was in the anthology series Beef
Fans are wondering: Who will play the lead roles in the new "X-Men" movie? There's now a hot rumor circulating about one member of Marvel's popular team of mutants: Charles Melton is reportedly in the running for the role of Beast. This is according to Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider. The actor was most recently seen in the anthology series "Beef." A role in the "X-Men" reboot would certainly be a career boost for the 35-year-old.
In the Marvel comics, Beast aka Hank McCoy is one of the original members, alongside Cyclops aka Scott Summers, Marvel Girl aka Jean Grey, Angel aka Warren Worthington III, and Iceman aka Bobby Drake. He made his debut in Marvel Comics as early as 1963. The character is distinguished, on the one hand, by his superhuman physical strength and agility. On the other hand, Hank McCoy possesses a brilliant mind. Over the course of decades of comic book history, Beast's appearance has changed significantly. The character was given a blue, animal-like appearance that has been continuously refined. In the "X-Men" films to date, the superhero has been portrayed by Kelsey Grammer, among others. Nicholas Hoult, in turn, played a younger version of the mutant.
There are also rumors about other X-Men members
So is it Charles Melton's turn now? According to Sneider, he's not the only candidate. Among others, Peter Claffey is reportedly in the running. The actor has drawn attention primarily for his leading role in the "Game of Thrones" spin-off "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms." It'll be interesting to see who ends up getting the role! The same goes for a few other "X-Men" characters that have been the subject of speculation for several months. In addition to the casting of Beast, there are also rumors surrounding Rogue. "Marty Supreme" actress Odessa A'zion is reportedly in the running for the superheroine role. Sydney Sweeney has also been mentioned as a potential candidate for a role in the "X-Men" movie. The star of the coming-of-age series "Euphoria" is reportedly a candidate for the role of Emma Frost.
In addition, there is ongoing speculation about whether "Stranger Things" star Sadie Sink will take on the role of Jean Grey, who, like Beast, has been a member of the "X-Men" from the very beginning. Sink will appear in the upcoming "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" – though it remains unclear in what role. And so speculation continues to run rampant as to whether she'll make her debut as an X-Men mutant in the new Spidey adventure – and then return in the "X-Men" movie.
Who will direct and write the new X-Men film?
Either way, these are just rumors at this point – and should therefore be taken with a grain of salt. What is certain, however, is that the "X-Men" reboot will be directed by Jake Schreier. He's already had a chance to let loose in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his film "Thunderbolts." The screenwriters have also been signed on: Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo, who, like Schreier, were also involved in "Thunderbolts." So they know each other well. Regarding the new writers, Jake Schreier explained to Collider a few months ago:
"When you go back and read X-Men, there's ideology but also interpersonal drama, almost of a soap opera quality. Having writers who understand both how to drive ideology from personal stakes, if we get that right, that's what will feel most honest to what X-Men can be."
In that regard, Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo could prove to be the perfect fit. In addition to "Thunderbolts," the two writers have made a name for themselves primarily through their work on TV series that focus on interpersonal drama. Joanna Calo is co-showrunner of the highly acclaimed series "The Bear." Lee Sung Jin is the creator and showrunner of the equally acclaimed series "Beef" – in which, as previously mentioned, Charles Melton, the potential actor to play Beast, had a role.
