Guy Ritchie remains a busy man. In the last two years alone, the director has released several popular films. 2023 saw the release of "The Covenant" starring Jake Gyllenhaal, followed in 2024 by "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" with audience favourite Henry Cavill. Ritchie also recently caused a sensation with the Netflix series "The Gentlemen". Now another film by the director with an ensemble of Hollywood stars awaits us soon.

Title and first plot details

The new film is called "Wife and Dog". Several pieces of information are currently circulating regarding the content. According to the synopsis in film databases such as IMDb, it is about a brilliant scientist who discovers the toxicity of a pesticide. However, this sparks a conflict with the powerful manufacturer of the product. The story of the film is said to be based on true events. However, the industry magazine Deadline reports that the plot is more in keeping with the tone of "The Gentlemen" and would focus on the British aristocracy.

Cast

The cast includes several well-known names. According to Deadline, "Doctor Strange" actor Benedict Cumberbatch will take on a role, among others. Actor Anthony Hopkins is also said to be part of the cast. He is of course best known for his iconic role as Hannibal Lecter in "The Silence of the Lambs". Rosamund Pike is also set to appear in "Wife and Dog". Many viewers will know her for her roles in David Fincher's "Gone Girl" or "Saltburn".

Additionally, Cosmo Jarvis is now joining the cast. He gained popularity in 2024 through his portrayal of the protagonist John Blackthorne in the hit series "Shogun". Guy Ritchie will direct and write the screenplay for his latest project.

Shooting of the film is set to begin in February 2025, but a release date has not yet been announced.

Guy Ritchie's new films

Guy Ritchie, known for his distinctive direction and style, has established himself over the years as a director of action, crime and gangster films. Since his breakthrough with "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" and "Snatch", the British director has become an integral part of international cinema. In recent years, however, Ritchie has taken an interesting turn in his career, exploring different subjects and genres. Here we take a look at some of his latest films.

The Gentlemen

"The Gentlemen" marked a return to Guy Ritchie's roots: a mix of gangster comedy and clever dialog. The film follows an American drug baron, Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey), who has built up an empire in the British marijuana trade and is now considering selling it. But things go off the rails when intrigue, blackmail and power struggles come into play. Ritchie's typical narrative style - with quick cuts, humorous dialog and convoluted storylines - comes into its own here perfectly. The film was a welcome throwback to the nerve-wracking yet entertaining crime stories that once made Ritchie famous.

Aladdin

With the live-action adaptation of "Aladdin", Guy Ritchie entered completely new territory. When Disney was looking for a director Ritchie was hired to put his own stamp on the material. Ritchie accepted the challenge of combining the magical tale with modern elements and preserving the familiar charm of the original. Although the reviews were mixed, it was an interesting artistic turn for the director.

Wrath of Man

In "Wrath of Man", Guy Ritchie returned to his action roots. The movie follows a mysterious security guard, played by Jason Statham, who works in a cash trucking company while hiding dark secrets from his past. The film showcases Ritchie's talent for staging suspense, fast-paced action sequences and characters who operate in morally gray areas. "Wrath of Man" dispenses with humor and levity and instead focuses on a dark atmosphere, which is an interesting further development of Ritchie's style.

Operation Fortune

With "Operation Fortune", Guy Ritchie remains true to the action thriller genre, but in a more international context. The film follows a secret agent (Jason Statham) who becomes embroiled in a dangerous mission to stop a weapon falling into the wrong hands. Together with a team of specialists, he embarks on a hunt through various countries, combining the classic elements of a spy movie with Ritchie's humorous and fast-paced style. The film once again brings out the typical characteristics of a Guy Ritchie film: fast-paced action, exciting twists and colorful characters.

Guy Ritchie's most recent films show an interesting development. From the humorous gangster drama to the large-scale Disney adaptation to the dark thriller, Ritchie has proven his versatility. His return to classic gangster films such as "The Gentlemen" in particular shows that he has never completely abandoned his roots. But his foray into the action and spy genre, as well as his collaborations with major studios such as Disney, also prove that Ritchie is able to adapt to new challenges without losing his unmistakable style.
