Second Predator Film to be Released in 2025!
Work is also in progress on "Alien: Romulus 2"
In 2025, "Predator" fans should be in for a real treat. In addition to the eagerly awaited "Predator: Badlands", a second film is surprisingly set to be released!
In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, studio boss Steve Asbell revealed that Dan Trachtenberg will be responsible for the other film as well. It will be an animated anthology film set in different eras. The focus is on three Predators who arrive on Earth in different historical periods. The space hunters apparently fight against pirates and samurai. "Predator: Badlands", on the other hand, will be released on November 7, 2025 – the original release date of "Blade". According to Asbell, ideas for a sequel to "Alien: Romulus" are also being worked on.
But that's by no means all: a new "Alien vs. Predator" film is also being discussed. Unlike its controversial predecessors, the crossover is intended to respect the characters of both film series and not simply come across as a pure action spectacle. It is therefore possible that the characters from the "Predator" films will meet the surviving crew members from "Alien: Romulus". However, there is no concrete information.
The Predator series at a glance
Since its first film in 1987, the "Predator" series has established itself as one of the most popular and enduring science fiction franchises. Originally conceived as an intense action movie about an alien hunt for humans, "Predator" evolved into a series that combines horror, sci-fi and action and has experimented in different scenarios and timelines.
1. Predator (1987)
The first "Predator" film, directed by John McTiernan and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, is considered a classic of action cinema. The film follows the elite unit led by Major Dutch Schaefer (Schwarzenegger), who is sent on a seemingly simple rescue mission in the jungles of Central America. But they soon discover that they are being hunted by an almost invisible, highly intelligent alien that collects humans as trophies. With its innovative use of suspense, action and a legendary alien design by Stan Winston, "Predator" set new standards in the sci-fi genre and quickly became a cult classic.
2. Predator 2 (1990)
The second film in the series, "Predator 2", is no longer set in the jungle, but in the streets of Los Angeles, where a city dominated by violence and crime serves as a hunting ground for the Predator. Danny Glover takes on the role of police detective Mike Harrigan, who discovers that an invisible creature is murdering people. "Predator 22 received mixed reviews and was often seen as less powerful compared to the first film. Nevertheless, it introduced new elements to the plot, such as the idea that the Predators maintain a culture of honor and trophy collecting based on honor and athletic competition.
3. Alien vs. Predator (2004)
The "Alien vs. Predator" crossover idea, originally successful as a comic series, was brought to the big screen in 2004. In "Alien vs. Predator", directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, scientists discover a pyramid under Antarctica containing both Predators and Xenomorph aliens. The Predators use the aliens as hunting trophies and a testing rite for young Predators. While the film drew mixed reactions from fans of the franchises, it was successful enough at the box office to warrant a sequel.
4. Alien vs. Predator 2 (2007)
The direct sequel "Alien vs. Predator 2" continues the events of the previous film and introduces the so-called "Predalien", a hybrid creature of Xenomorph and Predator. The monster lands in a small town and causes chaos as both Predators and humans battle the alien menace. Requiem was heavily criticized for its plot and gritty aesthetic that often made it difficult to watch, but found a loyal fanbase among those who appreciated the dark style and violent confrontations.
5. Predators (2010)
In an attempt to bring the franchise back to its roots, "Predators" moved the action back to a jungle setting, but this time on an alien planet. The story follows a group of warriors and fighters who have been kidnapped by the Predators and taken to an alien planet where they are hunted as prey. Director Nimród Antal and producer Robert Rodriguez created a movie that took the original suspense and survival element of the original, but added some fresh ideas. The film was praised for its suspense and return to the style of the original and remains popular with fans to this day.
6. The Predator (2018)
Shane Black "The Predator"was received with great expectations, as Black himself had starred in the original film and was known as an experienced action director. The movie follows a new threat: a hybrid Predator creature that has been genetically enhanced to be even deadlier. Although the film's production was plagued by problems and the plot was criticized for being unbalanced and overstuffed, The Predator attempted to take the franchise in a new direction. Despite a mixed reaction at the box office and among critics, the movie still has a special role in the series as it introduces many new elements such as the genetic manipulation of Predators.
7. Prey (2022)
With "Prey", director Dan Trachtenberg took the action back in time, to the year 1719 to be precise. The film follows the young Comanche warrior Naru, who fights the first Predator to hunt on Earth. With this movie, Trachtenberg managed to win over both critics and fans, as the story captured the original suspense and simplicity of the original, while also being refreshingly new due to the historical background. Prey is considered one of the best films in the franchise and established a new perspective on the Predator universe.
The "Predator" series has experienced many ups and downs over the years, but has never lost its fascination. From merciless hunting in the jungle to futuristic scenarios and historical confrontations, the franchise shows enormous diversity and a willingness to evolve. Fans can look forward to seeing where the world of Predators will go in the coming years.
