Attention "Sonic" fans! After Ben Kingsley was apparently cast for a role in "Sonic 4", insider Daniel Richtman has now brought another name into play – and this one should definitely cause some excitement. It's none other than Jim Carrey, who will apparently be back as Dr. Robotnik.

According to reports, he is already filming the first scenes for the fourth part of the series. In "Sonic 3", the iconic villain underwent a completely atypical transformation and ultimately decided to save countless lives instead of destroying them. He sacrificed himself and died in the powerful explosion of the Eclipse cannon. It remains to be seen in what form Robotnik will return for "Sonic 4". For many fans, however, one thing is certain: a "Sonic" film without Jim Carrey would be a huge disappointment. "Sonic the Hedgehog 4" will be released in cinemas on March 19, 2027.

New characters in Sonic 4: Amy Rose and Metal Sonic

The appearances of Metal Sonic and Amy Rose, two iconic characters from the Sonic universe, are also particularly eagerly awaited. The two characters were already teased in the mid-credit scene of "Sonic 3" and caused a lot of excitement among fans.

Amy Rose: Sonic's great admirer

Amy Rose is a cheerful, energetic hedgehog girl and has been an integral part of the games – and soon the film series – for years. Fans have been waiting a long time for her appearance, and now the time has finally come.

Amy is known for her unwavering love for Sonic, even if these feelings are not really reciprocated. Nevertheless, she confidently calls herself his girlfriend. But she is far more than just a loving sidekick: with her legendary Piko Piko hammer, she can easily take on strong opponents. The hammer grows to an impressive size when needed, making Amy a serious fighter.

In the original, Kristen Bell will lend her voice to Amy Rose. Bell is experienced in dubbing – among other things, she voiced Anna in Disney's animated hit "Frozen". Her commitment suggests that Amy will play a significant role in the new film.

Metal Sonic: Sonic's most dangerous mirror image

Metal Sonic is a real threat. The highly developed robot was originally created by Dr. Robotnik to artificially replicate Sonic's abilities – with one clear goal: to surpass and ultimately destroy him. Metal Sonic is considered one of the blue hedgehog's most dangerous opponents in the games. His speed, precision and lack of emotion make him a merciless opponent. It is particularly exciting that at the end of "Sonic 3" not just a single Metal Sonic appears, but an entire army: the so-called Metal Sonic Troopers.

The Metal Sonic Troopers: an army of data

The Troopers have their origins in the comics. There, they were created from the data of the original Metal Sonic – not by Robotnik himself, however, but by Sonic's uncle Dr. Charles "Chuck" Hedgehog, among others. They were originally intended to serve as protectors, but were misappropriated.

For the fourth film, the question now arises: Who controls this army? Who is behind the order to eliminate Sonic? After Robotnik seemingly met his end in the last film, the story needs a new antagonist – or at least a new force in the background. It's conceivable that the movie could first shed light on the origin story of the Troopers before the big showdown. This approach would give the audience a better understanding of the motivation and threat of the new opponents.

Model for the story: Sonic CD

Rumors suggest that Sonic's new adventure may not be called "Sonic the Hedgehog 4", but that the title will be based on the cult game "Sonic CD". In this game, Sonic travels to Little Planet, which appears over Never Lake once a year. Time travel plays a central role there: past, present and future exist in parallel. Dr. Robotnik tries to manipulate time with the help of the so-called Time Stones.

If the film does indeed take up this concept, we could be looking at a dark vision of the future - perhaps a world in which Metal Sonic has gained the upper hand. Time travel elements would open up new visual possibilities and take the franchise to a new narrative level. In this game, Amy is kidnapped by Metal Sonic – but in the movie, she should be much more active. Her portrayal as an independent fighter would suit modern audiences better than the classic "damsel in distress" role.

The creative team behind the camera

The previous films were directed by Jeff Fowler, and there are many indications that he will also direct the fourth installment. His flair for balancing humor, action and fan service was instrumental in the success of the series. The script team is also likely to remain largely the same. Paramount seems to be sticking to the proven formula for success – a smart move given the impressive figures: The series has so far grossed over 1.2 billion dollars worldwide, with "Sonic 3" alone reaching almost 500 million dollars.
