Problems with Spider-Man Series: Authors Suspend Work on "Silk: Spider Society"
The series is to be released via Amazon
A new Spider-Man series is in development, but there are a few issues. The production of Amazon's "Silk: Spider Society" has not been going well so far.
As The Ankler reports, the series developed by Marvel and Sony in cooperation with Amazon is apparently facing some challenges. The project was initially put on hold due to the Hollywood strikes. At the time, several episodes had allegedly already been written. According to Deadline, the writers were supposed to get back together at the end of January. However, a number of sources now point to the fact that work has been suspended again for an indefinite amount of time.
The reasons for the trouble are not entirely clear. Some internal sources suggest that the anticipated flop of "Madame Web" may have been the reason to shift the focus of the series more towards a male audience - whatever that may mean. Amazon has yet to comment on this.
Despite the sudden break, Angela Kang has been confirmed as showrunner for "Silk: Spider Society". In terms of plot, the series focuses on the Korean-American heroine Cindy Moon. She was bitten by the same spider as Peter Parker and sets off in search of her missing family. Renowned producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, known for "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" and the "Lego" movies, are also still behind the project.
The series from the "Spider-Man" universe is part of a new era of live-action co-productions from Marvel and Sony, which have been given the go-ahead by Amazon. In addition to "Silk: Spider Society", "Spider-Man Noir" is also in the works, with Nicolas Cage rumored to be in serious talks for the lead role. The series is to be set in New York during the 1930s Great Depression.
