Soul: Disney broadcasts Pixar film from subscribers via its own streaming service
You can look forward to similar releases from Disney+ in the future
A few days ago, Disney announced that it will make Pixar's latest animated adventure "Soul" exclusively available on Disney+ starting December 25, 2020. Especially on the international market, Disney will nevertheless be considering bringing the film to the cinema. "Soul" is by far not the first film that can be seen on Disney+ instead of in the cinema, because the global corporation caused quite a stir a few months ago when the cinema release of "Mulan" was cancelled and offered for a hefty surcharge on its streaming service. But "Mulan" will not be available for a fee for too long either, as Disney plans to offer the live-action film free of charge to its subscribers from December onwards. The immense success of Disney+ even seems to change the company structure. To be more precise, the company wants to rely more on a direct line to the customer in the future, this means streaming will be preferred to conventional cinema releases. In an official statement, Disney CEO Bob Chapek reveals that the company is deliberately positioning itself to significantly increase its growth and value. The company is relying on paid content from the various streaming portals Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+.
How do you see the whole thing: is Disney pursuing the right strategy with its new model or should we continue to focus on the classic cinema experience in the future? Feel free to write it in the comments!
