"Alien" and "Predator" fans have a good reason to be excited: after the success of "Prey" and "Alien: Romulus", there's plenty more to come! In this Original, we show you what to expect - above all from the new Predator movie "Badlands"!

Plot

Unlike "Prey", "Predator: Badlands" is set in the future. It is about two interconnected storylines revolving around the two twin sisters Thia and Tessa. They could hardly be more different. On the one hand, there's the clever but naive scientist Thia: she has spent her whole life in the laboratory and must now go out into the wide world for the first time. Her sister Tessa, on the other hand, is resolute, serious and single-mindedly pursues her goals.

The conflict between the two sisters will form the story's emotional core. Of course, the ever-popular alien hunter will take care of everything else. We can certainly expect a violent fight for survival in which the twins will give their all to protect one another.

Most of the details of the story are of course still being kept under wraps. However, as the film is set in the future, we can presumably look forward to an interesting setting in which some sci-fi equipment will be used. This also has an influence on the villain's arsenal of weapons: as we all know, he always adapts his equipment to the conditions of his hunting ground.

Cast and Production

Who exactly will be starring in "Predator: Badlands" is not yet known. However, one name does keep popping up when it comes to the leading roles: according to insider reports, actress Elle Fanning is set to play both twins. Dakota Fanning's younger sister is best known for movies such as "Super 8" and "Maleficent". The starring role in a film from the "Alien" and "Predator" franchise would no doubt give her career a further boost.

Dan Trachtenberg, who previously directed the successful movie "Prey", is back in the director's chair. If he delivers another movie of this quality, most "Predator" fans should be pleased. With screenwriter Patrick Aison, another member of the "Prey" team is likewise involved.

The film is currently being shot in New Zealand and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2024. So with a bit of luck, we'll get the first images from the movie soon. However, we probably shouldn't expect a "Predator: Badlands" trailer any sooner than 2025.

It is still unknown whether the new movie will be released in cinemas or on a streaming service like "Prey". However, after "Alien: Romulus" was able to make an impression in the cinema, the chances of a release on the big screen are not bad at all. An exact release date for "Predator: Badlands" is not yet known, but it should happen sometime in 2025.

Further Projects

Prey 2 in World War 2

"Badlands" is not the only movie project from the popular franchise currently in the pipeline. For example, a "Prey" sequel is likewise in the works - this was confirmed in February 2024.

However, according to insider rumors, "Prey 2" will not pick up directly on the storyline of the first part, but will be set in the Second World War. The connection between the two movies would come from the main character: the focus would once again be on a Native American who is a direct descendant of the heroine from part 1. During the Second World War, he is supposed to be a Navajo code talker - an encryption method that could only be used with the help of the Navajos.

These details should be taken with a grain of salt, though, as the plot has not yet been officially confirmed. A direct continuation of the story of the predecessor around the main character Naru is still possible as an alternative.

There is no exact release date for "Prey 2" as of yet. Based on rumors, we will have to remain patient until at least 2027.

The Alien Series

The "Alien" series is also set to continue: the first series in the franchise, called "Alien: Earth", awaits us in 2025. In it, the monster is transported to Earth - 30 years before the plot of the first movie. Noah Hawley, creator of the award-winning series "Fargo", is the man behind the project. Recently, a first teaser trailer for "Alien: Earth" was released. The series will be released on FX on Hulu in the United States - an exact release date has not been set yet.

The Alien vs Predator Reboot

If all goes well, we can also look forward to an "Alien vs Predator" reboot in the future. "Alien: Romulus" director Fede Alvarez stated in an interview ahead of the movie's release that he would like to make such a film - together with "Prey" director Dan Trachtenberg! This would mainly depend on the interest of the fans and whether "Romulus" would perform in theaters. Meanwhile, it can be said that both are likely the case. So the chances of a new "Alien vs. Predator" movie are pretty good!
