Aegon's Conquest: New Game of Thrones Project to Become a Feature Film!
There is already a clear favorite among the fans for the lead role
It's finally official! The new "Game of Thrones" project, "Aegon's Conquest", will indeed be a major feature film. Warner Bros. announced this at this year's CinemaCon in Las Vegas.
At the heart of this epic is one of the most legendary figures from George R. R. Martin's fantasy universe: Aegon I Targaryen. Back then, Aegon, along with his sisters and their dragons, united six of the seven kingdoms of Westeros. He also created the iconic Iron Throne. Warner Bros. has secured renowned writer Beau Willimon to adapt "Game of Thrones: Aegon's Conquest". Willimon is best known as the creator of the acclaimed political series "House of Cards". He was also involved in the "Star Wars" series "Andor".
Although a first draft of the script is reportedly already available, fans will have to be patient for quite some time. Neither the director nor the cast of the lead roles has been finalized at this point. Among fans, however, there is a clear favorite for the role of Aegon: Henry Cavill!
Additionally, Paramount's acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery is likely to impact production. But there's no cause for concern: The third season of "House of the Dragon" is expected to premiere on HBO Max in June 2026. Furthermore, the second season of "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" is also in development.
The Expansion of Westeros: An Overview of All Spin-Off Series
The "A Song of Ice and Fire" universe created by George R. R. Martin has long since evolved from a single hit series into a sprawling franchise. While the original series "Game of Thrones" laid the global foundation between 2011 and 2019, the television landscape in 2026 is characterized by a multitude of prequels that shed light on the different eras of Westeros' history.
An Epic Conflict: House of the Dragon
The first and so far most successful spin-off is the series "House of the Dragon". This production premiered in 2022 and focuses on the rise of House Targaryen and the ensuing bloody civil war, known in history as the "Dance of the Dragons". The plot is set approximately 200 years before the events of the original series and is based on the book "Fire & Blood".
After two globally acclaimed seasons, fans are now eagerly awaiting June 2026, when the third season is set to premiere on the streaming service HBO Max. The series stands out above all for its political complexity and the monumental depiction of dragons, while focusing on the themes of inheritance, claims to power, and family betrayal.

The New Chapter: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
In the spring of 2026, "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" launched as a significantly more intimate spin-off of the franchise. The series is based on the popular short stories about "Dunk and Egg" and takes place roughly 100 years before the main series. The story follows the young, honorable knight Ser Duncan the Great and his unusual squire Egg, who is in fact a hidden prince of House Targaryen. In contrast to the epic battles and global intrigues of the other productions, this spin-off is significantly more character-driven and has an almost adventurous tone. The first season consists of six episodes, and due to its popularity, work is already underway on continuing the story.

In Development: From Animation to Seafaring
In addition to live-action series, HBO is increasingly experimenting with other formats to explore the far corners of the world. Particularly noteworthy is the project "9 Voyages", which focuses on the legendary voyages of the young Corlys Velaryon. Originally planned as a live-action series, this project is now being produced as an elaborate animated series, as depicting the numerous exotic locations in the traditional format would have been too costly.
However, the expansion has not been without setbacks, as some promising projects have also been scrapped. For instance, the planned sequel centered on the character Jon Snow was officially canceled because those in charge could not find a strong enough story for a follow-up.
