First trailer for Scary Movie 6: These horror movies are being parodied
Even one of this year's Oscar favorites is not spared
Fans of the comedy film series can hardly wait: after a 13-year hiatus, "Scary Movie 6" is coming to theaters this year. One of the most exciting questions with every new installment of "Scary Movie" is always: Which horror movies will be parodied this time? For some of the parodied films, there is now certainty. That's because the first trailer for "Scary Movie 6" has now been shown in theaters – ironically, before the current horror movie "Scream 7." And it was immediately leaked.
Officially, the trailer for "Scary Movie 6" is scheduled to be released online on Monday, March 2, 2026. As soon as it's available, we'll show it to you here!
Ghostface is back
Right at the beginning of the trailer, familiar horror characters such as Jason Voorhees, Leatherface, Heart Eyes, and M3GAN can be seen. Ghostface, the parody serial killer from "Scream," also makes a reappearance. The films parodied include "Get Out," "Weapons," "The Substance," "Terrifier 3," and "Sinners," which is one of the favorites in the race for the Academy Awards this year with 16 Oscar nominations.

In addition, Anna Faris as Cindy Campbell and Regina Hall as Brenda Meeks, two protagonists who have been an integral part of the "Scary Movie" series since the first installment, are returning. They only took a break in the fifth film. Shawn and Marlon Wayans, two other veterans of the comedy series, are also back on board. The two were already involved in the scripts for the first two "Scary Movie" films and are now once again responsible for the script, together with Rick Alvarez and Keenen Ivory Wayans. The latter was also the director of the first two films. Michael Tiddes is now in the director's chair for the latest installment. "Scary Movie 6" will be released in theaters on June 12, 2026.
Scary Movie: A success story
Critics were rarely enthusiastic about the crude humor of the horror movie parodies, but "Scary Movie" proved to be a box office success. This was especially true for the first installment in 2000, which grossed $278 million worldwide on a budget of just $19 million. In view of this sum, the second part followed the very next year. With 45 million, the budget was increased considerably, but the worldwide box office takings were lower – although still impressive at 141 million.
Director David Zucker took the helm for part 3. With success: his film grossed $220 million worldwide in 2003. In 2006, he made "Scary Movie 4" and grossed $178 million. It wasn't until seven years later, in 2013, that the fifth installment of the series followed, this time directed by Malcolm D. Lee. However, with $78 million, the worldwide box office takings fell short of expectations. And so the franchise lay dormant for another 13 years until Michael Tiddes was hired as the new director. It will be interesting to see how his "Scary Movie" film performs at the box office.
