From the DCEU to the world of video game adaptations: "Blue Beetle" director Angel Manuel Soto will be in charge of an adaptation of the popular shooter "Just Cause".

Rumors about a movie adaptation of the "Just Cause" video game series have been circulating for several years - but nothing has ever come of it. Well, until now: Because according to The Hollywood Reporter, Square Enix, Avalanche Studios and Universal Pictures have teamed up to bring the open-world game to cinemas. The blockbuster is being produced by Kelly McCormick and "The Fall Guy" director David Leitch.

In the shooter "Just Cause", the player takes on the role of secret agent Rico Rodriguez, who is trying to overthrow a dictator on the South American tropical island of San Esperito. To overcome his opponents, Rodriguez is armed with a grappling hook and a wingsuit, for example, which enable him to perform all kinds of breakneck stunts.

The involvement of director Soto is a perfect fit - after all, parts of "Blue Beetle" also felt like a video game made into a movie. Details about the plot and a possible cast are still being withheld. However, the "Just Cause" movie is likely to be a long time coming anyway. For now, Soto will be devoting himself to the action film "The Wrecking Crew". In the leading roles: Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista.
