It's finally here: the first trailer for "Avengers: Doomsday"! Although the signs had been mounting over the past few days, the release still came much earlier than expected. It already gives us plenty to talk about. In about two and a half minutes, we get a look at nearly every major character – including Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.)! Here's what the Doomsday trailer shows

The trailer opens with Professor X (Patrick Stewart) and a first look at Doctor Doom. After the official Marvel intro, we see the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, and the "New Avengers" from "Thunderbolts*" come together. We also see characters from the "Black Panther" movies. Alongside these scenes, we hear a voice-over from Thor (Chris Hemsworth), who must face off against Doctor Doom:

"I've fought with many warriors in my time. They were far stronger than all of us put together. And they died. They died facing enemies and threats that scared me far less than this one. Everything that they sacrified will be for nothing, if we do not stand together. Put aside your petty squabbles. Presume nothing except this: If you return, you will return as brothers and sisters. But mark my words: We're going to need a miracle!"

We also get a brief look at a showdown between Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) and Channing Tatum's Gambit. The trailer then cuts to fan favorite Loki (Tom Hiddleston). Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) also makes a prominent appearance as she faces off against Mystique (Rebecca Romijn). After a few more action-packed clips, the trailer returns toward the end to the duel between Thor and Doctor Doom. But the final moment belongs to someone else: Steve Rogers (Chris Evans)! We see his reunion with Thor.

Along with the trailer, Marvel also released a new poster, which you can check out here:

A First Plot Summary

An initial plot description for the MCU blockbuster is currently circulating online. Some media outlets are even calling it an official synopsis, and sites like Rotten Tomatoes have already picked up the description. The plot description reads as follows:

"Universes collide and the Multiverse Saga begins its final chapter in Marvel Studios' 'Avengers: Doomsday'. Beloved heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a deadly collision course and ultimately face an existential threat unlike anything they've ever encountered. This epic film will lay the foundation for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. See it in Infinity Vision, the way it's meant to be seen, on bigger, brighter and more immersive screens."

The Artwork Poster

A first piece of artwork featuring all the film's protagonists was recently released; you can check it out here:

The illustration features numerous heroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Steve Rogers, Thor, Ant-Man, Sam Wilson, the Fantastic Four, and the main characters from "Thunderbolts*." In the foreground are several members of the X-Men who have already appeared in previous films. Alongside Professor X and Magneto, Cyclops, Beast, Nightcrawler, Mystique, and Gambit are also featured.

In the center of the illustration, the masked villain Doctor Doom fixes his gaze on the viewer. Below him – albeit very small and barely recognizable – is another figure who appears to be Loki.

A Short Mini-Teaser Ahead of the Trailer

By the way: Shortly before the trailer's release, a mini-teaser was already shared on social media. It features a brief clip from "The Fantastic Four: First Steps." The scene shows Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) explaining: "We make a point to do family dinner every week. Sunday at 7, on the dot, no matter what." So far, so familiar. But then the image cuts out abruptly, and all we hear are two voices. Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby) asks, "How long do we have?" To which Reed replies, "Not long." You can watch the mini-teaser here:

The release date for Avengers: Doomsday
