Two New "Pirates of the Caribbean" Films in Development
Margot Robbie is set to take on the lead role in the spin-off
Sails hoisted and full speed ahead: Producer Jerry Bruckheimer once again spoke about the future of "Pirates of the Caribbean" and revealed that two new films are in the pipeline - including the long-debated spin-off with Margot Robbie.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bruckheimer revealed that there are two very different "Pirates of the Caribbean" projects: the already confirmed reboot of the series and a separate spin-off. A few years ago, Margot Robbie already spoke positively about the idea of appearing in a female-led spin-off of the franchise. However, the project came to a temporary halt in 2022.
The so far untitled spin-off is to be written by "Birds of Prey" author Christina Hodson. Jeff Nathanson, who already wrote the screenplay for "Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Man Tell No Tales", will be responsible for the reboot. Bruckheimer praises Nathanson's progress and emphasizes that the third act of the script is particularly great. Based on initial information, the reboot will do without the familiar characters. According to Bruckheimer, it is still possible that Johnny Depp could make an appearance as Captain Jack Sparrow.
Despite many different ideas and approaches, it seems that a common ground has not yet been found: After all, another reboot of the series was also in the works, which was to be written by "The Last of Us" creator Craig Mazin in collaboration with Ted Elliot. So it remains to be seen which of the new "Pirates of the Caribbean" adventures we will actually get to see.
