David Gordon Green Exits "The Exorcist 3: Deceiver"
The film has been postponed indefinitely
It has come to an abrupt exit: David Gordon Green is stepping down from the production of the horror sequel.
Last year, we were given a rather mixed sequel to the horror classic directed by William Friedkin in the form of "The Exorcist: Believer". Although the film can certainly be considered a success with global box office takings of 136 million dollars, the majority of fans were disappointed and the critics were anything but impressed. The result: a Metascore of 39 and 22% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The future of the trilogy planned by Universal Pictures and Blumhouse could now be in serious trouble, as Collider reports that director David Gordon Green has left the production of "The Exorcist 3: Deceiver". According to initial information, Green wants to focus on his upcoming Christmas film "Nutcrackers" with Ben Stiller for the time being.
It was also announced that the release of "The Exorcist 3: Deceiver" will be postponed indefinitely until a new director has been found for the project. Whether and when we will get to see the continuation of the film series remains to be seen.
