Tom Cruise Takes On the Lead Role in a New Film by Alejandro G. Iñárritu
"Bardo" was released via Netflix
After "The Revenant" and "Birdman", acclaimed director Alejandro G. Iñárritu finally seems to have the next Oscar-potential project up his sleeve. This time, action star Tom Cruise will take on the leading role.
According to Deadline, Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment are currently in talks about an untitled film by Mexican director Alejandro G. Iñárritu, with Tom Cruise set to play the lead role. The movie will be Iñárritu's first English-language project since his survival thriller "The Revenant" in 2015.
For his latest film, the acclaimed director is once again teaming up with his co-writers Sabina Berman, Alexander Dinelaris and Nicolas Giacobone, with whom he previously wrote the screenplay for the Oscar hit "Birdman". In addition to Legendary Pictures, Tom Cruise will also be working as a producer.
So far, no details about the plot are known, except that it is an original story written by Iñárritu. The multi-award-winning director has held confidential meetings with selected actors in recent weeks, including Tom Cruise. At present, it can be assumed that the new film will also be made for theaters. In 2022, Iñárritu ventured into the world of streaming services with his pet project "Bardo", though it was not a great success.
