Deadpool 4: Ryan Reynolds' comments offer hope for a new movie

Will there be another "Deadpool" movie? Ryan Reynolds' comments certainly give cause for hope. The actor who plays the popular Marvel hero spoke about it at Fanatics Fest 2026. Reynolds hinted that the source comics offer even more storylines that haven't been explored yet and would be particularly well-suited for future adaptations – and he casually mentioned that there will likely be another film. Specifically, he said:

"So, there's a few really deep cuts that I think are missing from the movies. I think there's a few deep cuts missing from some of the comics. There's some stuff that, you know, I love that is incredible. [...] There's eventually, you know remotely, another 'Deadpool' film."

There's no official confirmation. So it remains to be seen whether there will actually be a sequel in the end. Especially since Reynolds remains fairly vague overall. But the star's words make one thing clear: He at least assumes that we haven't seen Deadpool on the big screen for the last time.

Will there eventually be a Deadpool 4?

The question, however, is also: Would it be a film in which Deadpool takes center stage? Or will we only see the character in the future in the form of cameo appearances in other Marvel films? Just a few months ago, Reynolds had already commented on the topic. On Today, he explained that he had written new "Deadpool" material and added:

"But I don't think I am ever going to center him again. He is a supporting character. He is a guy who is great in a group."

So despite his recent comments at Fanatics Fest 2026, it remains to be seen if – and in what form – Deadpool will appear on the big screen in the future. Especially since rumors are circulating that he might appear in "Avengers: Doomsday," even if these are merely unconfirmed speculations. Deadpool: From comics to the big screen

Deadpool, aka Wade Wilson, has been a part of Marvel Comics for 35 years. The unconventional Marvel hero is a disfigured mercenary who gained superhuman regenerative abilities through an experimental procedure and is mentally unstable. Created by artist Rob Liefeld and writer Fabian Nicieza, the character first saw the light of day in 1991: in issue 98 of the comic series "The New Mutants." After that, Deadpool appeared in the "X-Force" series, which, like "The New Mutants," is essentially a spin-off of the "X-Men" comics. In 1993, "The Circle Chase" gave Deadpool his first miniseries, before he became the hero of his own ongoing solo series four years later.

At the box office, the Marvel character played by Ryan Reynolds proved to be an extremely lucrative blockbuster hero. The first film from 2016, directed by Tim Miller, performed impressively. "Deadpool" grossed $782 million worldwide. Two years later, "Deadpool 2" saw a change in the director's chair: this time, David Leitch took the helm. This did nothing to diminish the film's financial success: the sequel was just as successful as its predecessor, grossing $785 million. But the biggest hit was yet to come, when Deadpool was paired in the third film with one of the most popular Marvel heroes of all time: the X-Men member Wolverine. Directed by Shawn Levy, the duo took the big screen by storm in 2024, with "Deadpool & Wolverine" ultimately raking in a staggering $1.3 billion. Given such box office results, it's no surprise that the idea of another "Deadpool" movie keeps coming up.
