"The Mandalorian & Grogu" Has Wrapped Filming!
"Star Wars 10", on the other hand, is attracting attention with problems
Five years have now passed since we were presented with the last "Star Wars" adventure on the big screen with "The Rise of Skywalker". Since then, the franchise has mainly been presented in the form of series on Disney+. But now that will change, as filming on the new movie "The Mandalorian & Grogu" has been completed!
The production of the blockbuster went surprisingly smoothly, even though some scenes with Pedro Pascal were already shot in early summer. Pascal is very busy and involved in a large number of projects. That's why his doubles slipped into the Mandalorian's armor in many scenes.
Not much is currently known about the plot of "The Mandalorian & Grogu". However, we assume that the end of the third season will serve as the starting point for the movie. The two are more or less officially tasked with keeping order on the outer rim of the galaxy on behalf of the New Republic. Unfortunately, the movie is not scheduled to be released before May 22, 2026.
Besides that, it remains to be seen which "Star Wars" film will be released on the currently planned date of December 18, 2026. The options are "Star Wars 10: New Jedi Order" with Daisy Ridley and James Mangold's prequel "Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi". Mangold recently explained that preparations for his film are now so far advanced that a shooting start in 2025 is within the realms of possibility.
"Star Wars 10", on the other hand, is mainly attracting attention due to its problems: according to World of Reel, "Peaky Blinders" creator Steven Knight is said to have left the project as a writer. The reason for this is apparently differences with Lucasfilm over the content of the film. Previously, "Lost" and "Watchmen" authors Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson had already dropped out for similar reasons. So when and whether we will get to see the movie is still a mystery for now.
The story of "The Mandalorian": an overview of the previous seasons
"The Mandalorian" was launched on Disney+ in 2019 and has since generated enthusiasm worldwide. As the first live-action series in the Star Wars universe, it brought a breath of fresh air to the galaxy far, far away and established itself through its gritty western atmosphere and iconic characters. Main character Din Djarin and his companion Grogu, also known as "Baby Yoda", became instant audience favorites.
Season 1: The journey begins
The first season took us deep into the Star Wars universe and opened up a new perspective by telling the story of a lone bounty hunter named Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), who belongs to the Mandalorians – a warrior race recognizable by their iconic helmet and armor. The plot begins when Djarin is tasked with finding a mysterious creature called "The Child" and delivering it to the client (Werner Herzog). But when he realizes that the child is haunted and possibly endangered, he decides to protect the creature.
The relationship between Djarin and the child, who is later given the name "Grogu", forms the emotional heart of the first season. On their journey, they encounter both enemies and allies, including the stoic Cara Dune (Gina Carano), the bounty hunter Greef Karga (Carl Weathers) and the mysterious Mandalorian leader known as "The Armorer". The finale of the first season ended dramatically: the Imperial officer Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) appears and turns out to be a merciless antagonist. He carries a mystical artifact, the Dark Sword, and does everything in his power to get Grogu back under his control.
Season 2: Discoveries and revelations
In the second season, the series delved deeper into the mythology surrounding the Mandalorians and Grogu's mysterious origins. Djarin attempts to bring Grogu to the Jedi, who have the knowledge and power to protect and train him. This quest leads him to various planets and into contact with familiar characters from the Star Wars universe, including Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison), Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) and Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff).
Ahsoka reveals some key information about Grogu, particularly his true identity as a Jedi Padawan who escaped the Clone Wars. This season is particularly known for its action-packed and emotional moments, including Grogu's meditative connection to the Jedi and Djarin's growing affection and responsibility for him.
An emotional highlight of the season is the final episode, in which Luke Skywalker (CGI-enhanced with the voice and appearance of a young Mark Hamill) shows up to take Grogu away. The touching farewell scene between Djarin and Grogu showed a new, vulnerable side of Djarin and made it clear how strong the bond between the two had become. Luke takes Grogu with him to protect him and impart Jedi knowledge, which is a profound change for Djarin.
Season 3: The return to Mandalore and Djarin's mission
Season 3, released in 2023, focuses heavily on Djarin's Mandalorian heritage and the future of his people. Without Grogu by his side, Djarin is increasingly confronted with questions about his identity and loyalty. The season picks up the events from the spin-off "The Book of Boba Fett", in which Grogu finally returned to Djarin after deciding not to train as a Jedi.
The plot delves into Mandalorian culture and the challenge of reuniting the Mandalorian people on their home planet of Mandalore. Bo-Katan and other Mandalorians, fragmented into different clans and factions, struggle for leadership and recognition of the symbolic weapon – the Dark Sword. It also addresses the imperial threat of Gideon, who continues to influence events and threatens the Mandalorians once again. The season combines political conflicts and personal struggles and shows how Djarin finds a new role within his people.
The relevance of the series and the future of "The Mandalorian"
"The Mandalorian" has not only delighted Star Wars fans, but has also reached a wider viewer base by combining a fresh, western-inspired narrative with the classic Star Wars elements. The character Din Djarin, who initially appeared as a tough bounty hunter, evolved into a responsible protector and father figure over the course of the series. Grogu, in turn, added a layer of innocence and mystery to the series that was crucial to its emotional success.
In addition, the series brought back popular characters from other Star Wars media and introduced them in new ways. Boba Fett, Ahsoka Tano and Bo-Katan Kryze became known to a new generation thanks to "The Mandalorian", contributing to a highly interconnected narrative universe.
