"Blue Beetle" Gets a Sequel in the Form of an Animated Series
The series is set to blend elements of the DCEU with the DCU
Blue Beetle returns: Although the hero's standalone film was not a huge success at the box office, DC is still planning a sequel. This time in the form of an animated series.
As Deadline reports, the animated "Blue Beetle" series will tie in with the events of the film and therefore also with the past DCEU. The story once again centers on Jaime Reyes, who became a superhero against his will thanks to a mysterious blue scarab. Last year, James Gunn revealed that parts of the DCEU would be incorporated into the new DCU. The plans include a number of characters, including Blue Beetle, as well as the corresponding actors.
The series will be directed by Miguel Puga, known for the Nickelodeon series "The Casagrandes". Puga will function as showrunner and director, while Cristian Martinez, who previously worked on the series "Good Trouble", will be working as screenwriter. Angel Manuel Soto, director of the "Blue Beetle" movie, will oversee the series as a producer.
