The success of "WandaVision" already led to the spin-off "Agatha All Along". Soon, a "Vision" series is set to follow, for which central roles have now been cast. The talk is of actress Emily Hampshire, best known for her role in the comedy series "Schitt's Creek". As industry magazine Deadline reports, she is set to play the role of the artificial intelligence E.D.I.T.H. in the "Vision" series.

E.D.I.T.H. was developed by Tony Stark and is primarily a security and defense system. After the events of "Avengers: Endgame", the AI was handed over to Tom Holland's Peter Parker. E.D.I.T.H. can be controlled via a pair of sunglasses. In the MCU films, the AI was introduced in "Spider-Man: Far From Home". Whether Hampshire will only voice E.D.I.T.H. or also embody the AI remains unclear for the time being.

T'Nia Miller as Jocasta

Deadline also recently reported on the casting of T'Nia Miller as Jocasta. In the Marvel comics, this vengeful AI was created by Ultron. Jocasta is also expected to play a central role in the "Vision" series. Miller was a cast member of the Netflix series "The Fall of the House of Usher", for example.

It is also known that James Spader will return as the voice of Ultron and that Paul Bettany will once again be seen as Vision. Behind the project is showrunner Terry Matalas, who was responsible for the last two seasons of "Star Trek: Picard". Matalas has previously worked with Hampshire on the series adaptation of "12 Monkeys". It is unknown when exactly we can look forward to the series that is currently called "Vision Quest". The most recent plan was to release it in 2026.

WandaVision

The fact that Vision is getting a new series is largely due to the success of "WandaVision". The series was released on Disney+ in January 2021 and broke new ground in the context of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The MCU's first series on the streaming service not only marked the start of Phase Four, but also a radical stylistic break with the classic superhero format. Directed by Matt Shakman and written by Jac Schaeffer, "WandaVision" skillfully combined sitcom nostalgia with dark mystery and emotion – a combination that delighted many viewers.

Plot: Sitcom Meets Superhero Drama

"WandaVision" centers on Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany), two well-known characters from the "Avengers" movies. But instead of epic battles and spectacular action, we first see the couple in a stylized 50s sitcom, in black and white and with recorded laughter. But underneath the seemingly wholesome sitcom façade, things are boiling. It soon becomes clear that something is wrong with the idyllic small town of Westview. Vision begins to ask questions and Wanda seems to know more than she is letting on. Over the course of nine episodes, a complex story about loss, trauma and dealing with pain unfolds.

Grief, Control and Reality

"WandaVision" is more than just a clever mix of genres. The series uses its unusual form to deal with profound emotional themes. At the center is Wanda's mourning, triggered by the events in "Avengers: Infinity War". Her grief is so overwhelming that she – unknowingly – takes control of an entire city to create a perfect reality for herself. This narrative decision makes "WandaVision" one of the most intimate and personal stories in the MCU. Instead of concentrating on external conflicts, the series focuses on the inner world of its protagonist. In it, Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany are able to demonstrate their acting talent.

Importance for the MCU

"WandaVision" is not only an independent series, but an integral puzzle piece in the evolving Marvel universe. The events lead directly to "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness". At the same time, the series introduces new characters such as Agatha (Kathryn Hahn), who has been given her own series. With "WandaVision", Marvel dared to try an unusual experience. The series proves once again that superhero stories can offer not only spectacle, but also room for character development and creative narrative forms. We are therefore eager to see what kind of approaches will be chosen for the new "Vision" series.
