Pedro Pascal: New role for the star of The Last of Us
In the film De Noche he replaces another Hollywood actor
Pedro Pascal is currently one of the most sought-after Hollywood actors. Now the star of "The Last of Us" has landed a new leading role, as Variety reports. In Todd Haynes' "De Noche", he becomes a police officer on the run - replacing Joaquin Phoenix, who dropped out last year.
The plot of the film is set in 1930s Los Angeles and is said to breathe the spirit of film noir classics such as "Chinatown". The focus is on the passionate romance between the investigator played by Pascal and a boarding school teacher played by Danny Ramirez. Surrounded by a corrupt system, the two men become political targets and are forced to flee to Mexico. Director Todd Haynes is responsible for the screenplay together with Jon Raymond and emphasizes the socio-critical dimension of his new work:
This story, with Pedro Pascal and Danny Ramirez in the two leads, arises out of an era — all too relevant to our own — of domestic corruption, racial exploitation and global terror. But it emerges as a testament to the inexplicable powers of desire and love to survive and overcome even the most crippling of human barriers.
Reunion with actor from The Last of Us
With his co-actor Danny Ramirez, Pedro Pascal meets up with an old acquaintance from "The Last of Us". While Pascal was part of the acclaimed HBO series about survival in a post-apocalyptic world as protagonist Joel Miller from the very beginning, Ramirez joined him as a supporting actor in the second season. However, it was recently announced that Ramirez will be replaced in the third season by Jorge Lendeborg Jr, who has been signed up alongside Clea DuVall as a new addition to "The Last of Us".

For Pedro Pascal, "The Last of Us" proved to be a career booster. In the role of Joel, who is as tough as he is sensitive, he portrays one of the most complex and interesting heroes in the current series landscape. Last year in particular, Pascal's career also took off outside of "The Last of Us". He made a name for himself in the cinema with three films.
Successful year at the movies for Pedro Pascal
In Matt Shakman's Marvel adventure "The Fantastic Four: First Steps", he played the role of superhero Mister Fantastic, alias Reed Richards, alongside Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn. This not only established him as a leading man in blockbuster cinema, but also secured him appearances in future films in the extremely successful Marvel Cinematic Universe - starting with the upcoming major event "Avengers: Doomsday".

But Pascal was also able to impress in smaller films last year. In Celine Song's romantic drama "Materialists", he was part of a relationship triangle alongside Dakota Johnson and Chris Evans and was able to showcase another facet of his acting talent in the role of the sought-after bachelor. Pascal has rarely been seen as charming as he is here.
For fans of political cinema, he had "Eddington" to offer. Set in New Mexico in 2020, director Ari Aster's film takes place during the coronavirus pandemic and tells the story of two opposing men fighting a duel for the office of mayor. While Pascal can be seen as the incumbent candidate, Joaquin Phoenix ironically plays the challenger. The very star who has now been replaced by Pascal in "De Noche".
