Release Date for New Tom Cruise Film from Star Director
Two Hollywood legends come together for the new project
A new movie project is coming up for Tom Cruise! The action star is in front of the camera for an Oscar winner - none other than Alejandro G. Iñárritu. After numerous award-winning movies such as "Birdman" and "The Revenant", the director is now making his way back to Hollywood.
However, the outcome is still going to be a while in coming. Warner Bros. has now announced the release date for the as yet untitled film: October 2, 2026. The studio has also shared some initial information about the plot: The most powerful man in the world embarks on an insane mission to prove himself as the savior of humanity. He wants to eliminate a catastrophe that he himself has caused.
The movie's cast is impressive: Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons and Riz Ahmed will all be in front of the camera with Cruise. Director Iñárritu is also jointly responsible for the screenplay. In addition, he is once again working with the co-writers of "Birdman".
However, Tom Cruise is not just planning this one film. The action star has a number of new movie projects in the pipeline that could define his career in the coming years. Here we take a look at the actor and producer's most exciting projects:
Mission: Impossible 8 - The Final Reckoning
One of Tom Cruise's most anticipated projects is undoubtedly the sequel to the big blockbuster "Mission: Impossible 7 - Dead Reckoning", which was released in cinemas in 2023. "Mission: Impossible 8 - The Final Reckoning", once again scripted and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, will be released in theaters on May 23, 2025. Fans of the series can look forward to spectacular stunts and action-packed scenes in which Cruise himself is once again behind the wheel of the thrills.
Deeper with Doug Liman
Tom Cruise and Doug Liman have already worked together successfully several times, including in the action-packed science fiction film "Edge of Tomorrow", which was praised for its innovative time-loop plot and gripping action. Previously, they also shot "American Made" - a gripping thriller based on the true story of pilot Barry Seal, which showcased Cruise's versatility as an actor.
The two are now planning the horror film "Deeper". Here, Cruise takes on the role of an astronaut who has fallen from grace and is confronted with extreme psychological and physical challenges. The main character goes into the deep sea for scientific research in order to rehabilitate himself after a mistake. However, the film does not have a release date yet.
Top Gun 3
While "Top Gun: Maverick" was celebrated worldwide as the most successful movie of the year in 2022, there are plans for another installment in the series. "Top Gun 3" is currently in development at Paramount Pictures and, alongside Glen Powell and Miles Teller, Tom Cruise is also back as Captain Pete "Maverick" Mitchell. However, a release date has not yet been set.
Broadsword with Christopher McQuarrie
Another exciting project from Tom Cruise is being made in collaboration with successful director Christopher McQuarrie. McQuarrie, who was responsible for directing the last "Mission: Impossible" movies in the past, has built up a very successful partnership with Cruise. The director is known for developing exceptionally complex, exciting stories with plenty of action and dramatic depth.
The new project is the war film "Broadsword". The main character is a marine captain who crashes in France during the Second World War. The captain is the only survivor and tries to complete his mission under these adverse circumstances. Shooting of the movie is slated for summer 2025.
Tom Cruise's Career Remains Exciting

With his ability to perform breathtaking stunts and his unwavering commitment to his movies, he will remain a prominent presence in Hollywood for years to come.
