From He-Man to Project Hail Mary with Ryan Gosling: Amazon MGM at CinemaCon 2025
All highlights of the Amazon MGM panel
Amazon MGM had a lot to offer at this year's CinemaCon, even if fans would certainly have liked to get some information about "James Bond". But to make up for it, there was new content on the fantasy film "Masters of the Universe" and the science fiction movie "Project Hail Mary" with Ryan Gosling.
Masters of the Universe: Nostalgia Meets High Fantasy
Director Travis Knight presented the first promotional video for "Masters of the Universe" to the audience on site. Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man was shown reaching for his legendary sword. A series of concept drawings and set photos also conveyed the impression that the film adaptation will remain true to the iconic designs of the 80s. With "Deadpool" actress Morena Baccarin as The Sorceress, Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms, Jared Leto as Skeletor and Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Amazon MGM is counting on a top-class cast to breathe new life into the legendary series.
The live-action film adaptation of "Masters of the Universe" tells the story of how the young Prince Adam first lands on Earth. Years later, however, he is reunited with the Sword of Power and takes on the villain Skeletor on his home planet of Eternia. The theatrical release of "Masters of the Universe" is currently scheduled for June 5, 2026.
Project Hail Mary: Sci-Fi Adventure with Ryan Gosling
A first trailer for the film adaptation of Andy Weir's novel "Project Hail Mary" was also met with excitement. Ryan Gosling plays a quirky teacher who is recruited by a scientist – played by Sandra Hüller – for a mission to save the dying sun. The humorous nature of the movie, for which the two directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are known anyway, is particularly evident in the scenes with Gosling's character. During his journey, he encounters a mysterious creation of light and a small, gross alien named Rocky. Impressive space shots by cinematographer Greg Fraser, known for "Dune" and "The Batman", add the finishing touch to the visual experience.
After the Hunt: Controversy and Drama
Acclaimed director Luca Guadagnino is also back with a new project: "After the Hunt" deals with allegations of sexual misconduct at a university and the repercussions for those involved. Andrew Garfield plays an academic defending himself against accusations, while Julia Roberts is caught in the middle. However, the first trailer was not particularly well received by audiences. We will find out on October 10 whether the film will ultimately be able to win us over.
Crime 101: Highly Suspenseful Heist Thriller
With "Crime 101", we can expect a heist thriller with an impressive cast. Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Halle Berry and Barry Keoghan can all be seen in the film. The story is about a spectacular jewel robbery in which loyalty and alliances are put to the test. The mixture of classic heist thriller elements in the style of "Heat" or "The Town" and a top-class cast promises a thrilling cinematic experience. A release date has not been set yet.
Verity: Thriller Suspense with Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson
Michael Showalter directs the adaptation of Colleen Hoover's bestseller "Verity". The trailer shown on site begins with a romantic encounter between Josh Hartnett's Jeremy and Anne Hathaway's Verity. But the plot takes a dark turn when Dakota Johnson's character, hired as a ghostwriter, uncovers Verity's secrets. The trailer promises a psychological thriller with unexpected plot twists and an intense cat-and-mouse game between the main characters.
Conclusion
Although the Amazon MGM panel had some highlights this year, there were no big announcements. Especially with regard to the casting of James Bond, Amazon stayed tight-lipped about it. So we can only hope for more news in the coming months.
