Successful Series "Shōgun" Gets Two More Seasons
Hiroyuki Sanada will return in his role
So it's happening after all! Although the Japanese epic "Shōgun" was planned as a mini-series and the makers repeatedly emphasized that there would be no further episodes, it seems that they have now changed their minds. Two more seasons are currently in the works.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the broadcaster FX has confirmed that they would like to renew the series for a second and third season. However, the actual production would depend on the outcome of the preparations. A writers room is currently being set up and is expected to open in the summer. The aim is to expand the story of "Shōgun" beyond Clavell's original novel and develop new narrative threads. The team behind the first season will of course be involved again, as will producer and lead actor Hiroyuki Sanada.
Aside from the worldwide hype, the announcement of the renewal is probably also linked to the Emmys: The submission deadline was just around the corner and, according to sources, FX has now submitted the series to the major categories for ongoing drama series - instead of just entering it in the mini-series category. The highly acclaimed hit with viewers on Disney+ is considered to have a good chance of taking home a trophy or two.
