In this Original episode, we present the most exciting releases that will make your blood run cold! So summon up all your courage: Here are our horror highlights for 2025!
Nosferatu - December 25, 2024
Director Robert Eggers is making sure that this absolute horror classic rises from its tomb once again: A new movie adaptation of "Nosferatu" is coming! The iconic vampire first saw the light of day in 1922 - played by Max Schreck at the time. Werner Herzog's version, in which Klaus Kinski took on the role of the undead, is equally legendary. In Eggers' version, it is now the turn of "It" star Bill Skarsgard.
Eggers is known for atmospheric productions such as "The VVitch", "The Lighthouse" and "The Northman" and was also able to win over an impressive cast for his vampire project: Lily-Rose Depp, Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Willem Dafoe are among those involved. The latter is now working with the director for the third time.
The first trailer already promises an eerie atmosphere. "Nosferatu" will be released on December 25, 2024 in the United States, with a later release at the beginning of January 2025 in other countries. We can't wait to see for ourselves whether the new version can compete with the old movies!
Wolf Man - January 17, 2025
The upcoming film "Wolf Man" is part of Universal Pictures' planned relaunch of its classic monster film series. The werewolf flick will be directed by Leigh Whannell, who previously made a strong impression with "The Invisible Man". Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner play the leading roles. The movie is a dark and modern reboot of the classic story from 1941. The first trailer definitely makes viewers want to see more! "Wolf Man" will be released in theaters on January 17, 2025.
Sinners - March 7, 2025
Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan are teaming up again. This time, however, not for "Black Panther 3", but for the vampire thriller "Sinners". The film follows two twin brothers who attempt to leave their difficult lives behind and return to their hometown. There, unfortunately, they discover that an even greater evil awaits them.
Besides Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld and Jack O'Connell will also feature in the film. The first trailer promises a dark and action-packed horror experience. We are excited and look forward to the theatrical release of "Sinners" on March 7, 2025.
28 Years Later - June 20, 2025
These infected really cannot be put to death! 18 years after "28 Weeks Later", Danny Boyle and Alex Garland present us with yet another chapter in their horror saga. And they have some ambitious plans: a total of 3 new movies are to be made.
"28 Years Later" will already come with a remarkable cast: In April 2024, a trio of actors was announced who will take on key roles: The trio consists of Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes and Jodie Comer. "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" actress Erin Kellyman and Jack O'Connell will likewise be involved in the project. Also returning for the sequel is Cillian Murphy. The Hollywood star achieved his big breakthrough with the leading role in part 1.
Screenwriter Alex Garland has already revealed that the passage of time will be a central aspect of the film. "28 Years Later" is expected to be released in cinemas on June 20, 2025.
M3GAN 2.0 - June 27, 2025
The lethal A.I. Megan will probably be back to cause terror on June 27, 2025! Part 1 was a huge success with global box office takings of over 180 million dollars - so it should come as no surprise that the story of the deadly doll will be continued. Like its predecessor, the movie will once again be written and directed by Gerard Johnstone and Akela Cooper. No details of the plot are currently known, but Allison Williams and Violet McGraw will return in their roles as Gemma and Cady. In addition to the sequel "M3GAN 2.0", a spin-off entitled "SOULM8TE" is likewise in the works and is due to be released on January 2, 2026.
The Conjuring 4: Last Rites - September 5, 2025
With "The Conjuring: Last Rites", James Wan's extremely successful horror series will be brought to an end, at least for the time being. However, the grand finale is not being directed by Wan himself, but by Michael Chaves. He has already worked on "The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It" as well as "The Nun 2" and "The Curse of La Llorona". The screenplay comes from David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who was already responsible for Part 2 and Part 3 of the film series.
This is probably the last reunion with Ed and Lorraine Warren for some time, who will of course once again be played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. Nevertheless, there is no reason to be sad: Chaves has already announced that there is still enough material for another story with the demon Valak from "The Nun". It has also been announced that there will be a "The Conjuring" series under the direction of James Wan that will be set after the events of the movies. First, though, "The Conjuring 4: Last Rites" will be released in movie theaters on September 5, 2025.
Saw XI - September 26, 2025
Let's play a game: Jigsaw returns! "Saw X" grossed 111 million dollars at the box office - on a budget of just 13 million. So it's only logical that the next sequel is being frantically worked on. Basically nothing is yet known about the plot of the next chapter in the cult horror series. However, 82-year-old Tobin Bell is returning once again in his role as John Kramer - whose love of perfidious instruments of torture is once again likely to play a major role. "Saw XI" will once again be directed by Kevin Greutert. The movie is expected to be released on September 26, 2025.
The Black Phone 2 - October 17, 2025
The black phone is ringing again: Scott Derrickson's horror hit "The Black Phone" is getting a second installment next year. "The Black Phone" was not only popular among fans, but is also regarded as one of the most profitable movies of 2022 with its low budget and net revenue of 68 million dollars.
Scott Derrickson will be back in the director's chair for "The Black Phone 2" and will be bringing back several actors who were already seen in part 1: for example, Ethan Hawke as the mysterious Grabber and Mason Thames as Finney. The supernatural thriller is expected to be released on October 17, 2025.
Five Nights at Freddy's 2 - December 5, 2025
In 2023, the famous "Five Nights at Freddy's" games were finally brought to cinemas - resulting in a huge success. With a budget of only 20 million dollars, the first movie grossed almost 300 million worldwide - the biggest hit that producer Blumhouse has ever had. Plenty of reason for a second part, which is due to start filming in October 2024.
What "Five Nights at Freddy's 2" will be about is not yet known, but some familiar characters from the games will be back: for example, "The Puppet" - an animatronic that is possessed by the ghost of a murdered girl. Moreover, a first behind-the-scenes image has already been published: it shows an animatronic head that is strongly reminiscent of Toy Chica. This character first appeared in the second part of the video games and is described as a "more child-friendly and improved" version of Chica the Chicken. However, she is not really suitable for children, as she is in no way inferior to the other animatronics in terms of bloodthirstiness and sadism. "Five Nights at Freddys 2" is expected to hit theaters on December 5, 2025.
Thanksgiving 2
Originally, the horror movie "Thanksgiving" by Eli Roth was only intended as a humorous trailer for the "Grindhouse" project by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino. However, serious work soon began on a full film adaptation. Due to various complications, however, the slasher was delayed by more than a decade.
In 2023, "Thanksgiving" was finally released in cinemas and is considered one of Eli Roth's best movies. So it's all the more exciting for fans of the horror flick that a sequel is currently in the pipeline. Perhaps this will even result in a new successful slasher franchise? Eli Roth will once again be directing the movie. At the moment, nothing is known about the cast, but we can assume that we will see some of the characters from part 1 again. A specific theatrical release date for "Thanksgiving 2" has not been set yet. However, should production not be delayed by another decade, the film might be ready as early as Fall 2025.
Final Destination 6: Bloodlines
Keyword long-lasting horror series: With "Final Destination: Bloodlines", we are about to see the sixth installment in the franchise. According to producer Craig Perry and screenwriter Jeffrey Reddick, the upcoming film brings with it some interesting innovations. In an interview with Collider magazine, Reddick spoke of a so-called "expansion of the universe" and an "expansion of the world of Final Destination", which will interest and intrigue fans.
Filming has already been concluded, meaning that a specific release date should not be too long in coming. Part 6 is therefore likely to premiere a full 14 years after the last installment in the film series, which was released in 2011. We are looking forward to finding out what the sequel has to offer and whether it can breathe new life into the iconic horror franchise.
