Wednesday Season 2 Series Preview
What to expect in the second season of the Netflix hit!
"Wednesday" season 2 awaits us and the anticipation could not be any greater! Can Netflix achieve yet another surprise hit? The series starring Jenna Ortega is currently the most successful Netflix production ever: it has been streamed more than 252 million times - so the bar is set pretty high. However, season 2 also has a few surprises up its sleeve even before its release: Find out all the details now - in our new KinoCheck Original!
The Plot of Wednesday Season 2
The first season of the popular series ended with an outright cliffhanger and left many questions unanswered. The most important one: who sent Wednesday the threatening messages? The wildest speculations broke out among fans. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Alfred Gough revealed that they wanted to focus on a number of relationships in the second season, with the friendship between Wednesday and Enid playing a key role. When asked whether something romantic could even develop between the two, the makers replied that this was not impossible. But it would have to feel natural and fit in with the plot.
Morticia Addams is also expected to play a much bigger role in the second season. According to a rumor, she will take on the position of the principal at Nevermore Academy, which could further enhance the family dynamic.
The conclusion of season one definitely leaves plenty of scope for a number of exciting developments. According to Jenna Ortega, there will also be more action than before. They want to move away from the love triangle between Wednesday, Xavier and Taylor and put more emphasis on horror.
A Spectacular Cast
The cast of "Wednesday" is of course once again led by actress Jenna Ortega, who once again slips into the role of the headstrong teenager. She is joined by Catherine Zeta-Jones in the role of her mother Morticia, Luis Guzmán as her father Gomez Addams and Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley. But there will also be some familiar faces outside the core Addams family: both Emma Myers as Enid and Joy Sunday as Bianca will be reprising their roles.
We can also look forward to some new cast members: these include Steve Buscemi, Billie Piper as well as Christopher Lloyd - who already played Uncle Fester in the first "Addams Family" movie. Also new: Joanna Lumley, "Westworld" star Thandiwe Newton and Haley Joel Osment.
The Production
As in the previous season, legendary director Tim Burton will once more direct a number of episodes. In May, Deadline also announced that production of the second season of "Wednesday" had been moved from Romania to Ireland. It is not yet possible to estimate how much time the production will take.
We can only hope that filming will go a little more seamlessly this time. Meanwhile, season 1 has attracted attention with negative reports regarding the working conditions. Jenna Ortega, for example, repeatedly criticized the external circumstances of the production. For instance, it was repeatedly unclear to her what would happen to her character. Moreover, it is said to have been very exhausting to take on the role of Wednesday Addams both physically and mentally each time. In season 2, though, she will have more control over the events, as Ortega is now also involved in the series as a producer and also has more influence over creative decisions.
When Can We Look Forward to New Episodes?
Although filming is currently in progress, it is not clear when we will be able to enjoy the new episodes. In early 2024, Netflix announced that the new season would not be released before 2025. At the moment, everything points to us having to wait a while longer. We will of course keep you up to date as always!
